The Track

  • Surface: asphalt
  • Layout: a single continuous circuit of rollers and bermed corners, designed to be ridden using momentum rather than pedalling
  • Suitable for bikes, scooters, skateboards and other wheeled users. The council's tender brief specified that at least one line should be accessible for sport wheelchairs
  • Free to use
  • Status: under construction. An opening event is planned for Saturday 26 September 2026, from 10 am to 2 pm

General

Wellington Pump Track was built by Clark and Kent Contractors, appointed by Wellington Town Council following a competitive tender in 2026. The council leads the project in partnership with Wellington Sports Federation and the Wellington Pumptrack, Skatepark and Dirt Jumps group, a local volunteer group that also has longer term ambitions to redevelop the town's existing skatepark and dirt jumps.

The project has a total cost of £175,000, funded through Section 106 contributions, a £3,000 grant from the Somerset Community Foundation's Stronger Communities Fund, and a public crowdfunding appeal. Councillors gave in-principle backing to the idea in August 2025, followed by a competitive tender process, with construction beginning in July 2026.
