Description
Wellholme Park Jumps is a volunteer-built dirt jump line tucked into a wooded corner of Wellholme Park in Brighouse, West Yorkshire. The line currently runs to six tabletop jumps and two bermed corners, each built with an easier and a harder side so riders can progress at their own pace.

The Trails
- A single line of six tabletop jumps with two bermed turns, built into a bank in the park's woodland, each jump shaped with an easier line and a more committing line so riders can build up gradually.
- Native dirt construction, hand-shaped and consolidated by the volunteer crew rather than surfaced, so the ground can be soft in wet weather and takes time to firm up after any rebuild work.
- No formal grading system: the jumps are built for progression rather than to a graded scale, and are best suited to riders already comfortable jumping a bike, working up from the easier lines.
History
The site's story goes back to 1985, when a BMX track was first built in this corner of the park's woodland. By the 2000s it had grown into one of the biggest informal jump spots in the area, with large sculpted jumps and gaps built by local riders, though without any formal agreement with the council managing the land. Council concerns over liability led to repeated rounds of the jumps being removed and rebuilt, and by around the early 2010s little remained beyond a start ramp, a berm and a handful of ageing gap jumps.
A local rider group, working with Calderdale Council and Yorkshire trail-building charity SingletrAction, put forward a plan to rebuild the site properly: turning the old gap jumps into a line of tabletops with an easier side on each one, aimed at working for the majority of riders rather than only the most experienced. The rebuild was crowdfunded, with SingletrAction, local businesses and community fundraising covering the cost of materials, and contractors working alongside volunteers to shape the new line.
Riding Here
Wellholme Park Jumps runs on an informal understanding with Calderdale Council, and the volunteer group that built and maintains it is open about the site being on probation: the jumps can be removed again if the site isn't treated responsibly. Riders are asked to:
- Wear a helmet
- Take all litter home, and consider picking up any left by others
- Never light fires on site
- Not modify, extend or build new features. There are other spots nearby for riders who have outgrown Wellholme
Access is informal and free. There's no booking system: riders can turn up and ride whenever the jumps are open.
Getting Here
Wellholme Park's main car park is off Bradford Road (A641), HD6 4AA, northeast of Brighouse town centre, about 5 minutes' walk from the bus station, 10 minutes from the train station, and 5 minutes' drive from the M62. From there, the jumps are a walk or ride north through the park to the wooded corner near Thornhills Beck Lane, HD6 4AH, at the park's northern end. There's also a smaller car park directly off Thornhills Beck Lane itself, right at the jumps: from that car park, head east along the narrow dirt trail parallel to the road, just inside the woods, to reach the jump line.
Local Organisation
The dedicated Wellholme Park Jumps group runs and maintains the site in partnership with Calderdale Council, alongside the wider Friends of Wellholme Park volunteers who help look after the park itself. SingletrAction, Yorkshire's volunteer mountain bike trail-building charity, supported the design and funding of the current rebuild. If you want to help, join the Facebook group and keep an eye out for dig days.
