Beater Trail (Blue)

  • The Blue graded Beater Trail is an 18km trail that is mainly single-track winding between the trees. There is a short 10km route or a long 18km route. Mostly single-track, winding through the trees and over obstacles such as roots.

Shepherd Trail (Green)

  • The Shepherd trail is an 8km Green graded for families and beginners. there is also a 5.5km shortcut version. Offers relatively flat, wide open forest roads, tracks and rides. Appropriate for most bikes, including tagalongs, trailers and child seats

Pedal fest but family fun

For a quick ride around then Thetford has a bit of everything but nothing major.  The red well let's just say I have seen family's on ancient relics of bikes take their 4/5 year old down the Beast with no issues at all.

If you are looking for jumps then best avoid but for a fun day out with the kids or just to keep fit Thetford is great

What do you like?

Easy trials for all abilities.  Nice play area for kids and a little pump track.  Mostly the trails are well kept.

What could be improved?

Very limited variety of riding, basically it is a pedal fest all round with little or no real technical bits or jumps.

Would you recommend?

yes

Thetford

After riding Swinley, Forest of Dean and Cannock in the last year Thetford is rubbish...poor trails made from concrete, small rollers in corners and on the entrance and exits to corners that sap speed and fun.the new start to the red trail. Called little em is so poor. And is virtually straight lined now.Serious new planning and rebuilding required by proper trail builders.

What could be improved?

Expensive parking...poor trails

Ok if You are in the Area and at a Loose End for Something to Do

Lost all its character over the years, better to park up at Santon Downham or Brandon and learn the off piste trails. Summer is a nightmare with families going the wrong way round. That said it's local so consider myself lucky to have a trail network a couple of miles away. Blue XC track at best with the exception of the Beast

What do you like?

The downhills, the Beast, head turner and Helter Skelter are reasonable. Good for pedalling and fitness

What could be improved?

Has evolved wrong. Much of the Line Burner is like a pavement. If only when designing new segments, they had consulted other forestry areas like FoD. Many sections of singletrack now resemble dual carriageway

Thetford Lime Burner trail

UK’s largest lowland forest and miles upon miles of great off piste to explore on top of the official trails!

What do you like?

Fun for a quick blast and good for group rides

What could be improved?

A little flat, good use of elevation though!

Would you recommend?

yes
