Description
South Shields Pump Track is a free-to-use asphalt pump track in West Park, South Shields, built on the site of four former tennis courts. Delivered by South Tyneside Council in partnership with UK trail specialists On Track, the £175,000 facility opened to the public in May 2026 and offers a flowing tarmac circuit with short and long loop options, a toddler learning area and a rumble section, suitable for bikes, scooters, skateboards and skates.

The Trails

The scheme was approved in 2025 following resident calls for more outdoor recreation space in the borough. Construction began in March 2026 and the track opened to the public in May 2026, quickly becoming a popular riding spot across South Tyneside and the wider North East.

Getting Here
The pump track is on the site of four former tennis courts within West Park, off Stanhope Road, South Shields, NE33 4RU. There is no dedicated pump track car park, so park on Stanhope Road or in the surrounding streets and walk in through the park.
