Description

South Shields Pump Track is a new asphalt pump track facility being developed in West Park, South Shields, on the site of four former tennis courts. Backed by South Tyneside Council and built by UK trail specialists On Track, the project is designed as a free-to-use riding space for bikes, scooters, skateboards and skates, with a flowing tarmac layout aimed at riders of all ages and abilities.

The main attraction is a large asphalt pump track featuring multiple rollers, berms and linked sections designed for pumping and carrying speed without pedalling. This is a super flowy pump track with short and long loop options, combined with a jump-box-style centrepiece.  Alongside the track is a smooth learn-to-ride area and a short roller path, perfect for those starting and getting to grips with balance and riding.

The project was approved in 2025 following community feedback requesting more outdoor recreation opportunities in the borough. Construction officially began in March 2026, with the ยฃ175,000 development expected to become a major new riding and community hub within West Park.
