Description

Sherwood Pines Mountain Bike Trails are in Sherwood Pines Forest Park in Nottinghamshire. They have red, blue, and green graded MTB trails, a Downhill and Dirt Jump area and as a skills area.

Like this?

Sherwood Pines also has miles of natural singletrack on offer.

Maid Marion Family Cycle Route (Green)

  • The Family Cycle route covers a 6.4km loop that starts at the Visitors Centre and loops through the forest on the extensive all-weather network. There are also "opt-in" sections of the intermediate blue trail where you can test your skills along the way.

Pedal and Play

  • A beginner-friendly Pedal and Play area at Sherwood Pines by Forestry England and Bike Track, designed to help young riders and families gain confidence before progressing to the main MTB trails. The site features three interconnected loops with learner lines, rollers and berms, supported by Defra funding and following successful builds at Cannock Chase, Hicks Lodge and High Lodge.

Robin Hood Adventure Cycle Trail (Blue)

  • The Adventure Cycle Trail is 11.2km. It is moderately graded at Blue. It is suitable for intermediate riders and is constructed from an all-weather limestone surface, which is rideable year-round.

The Outlaw Trail (Red)

  • The 13km Outlaw Trail is graded Red. It is quite flat, has berms and rollers, and flows with a mix of rocks and roots.

Skills Loop - Blue

  • Found near the visitor centre, this is a short loop of single track with a variety of technical trail features. Suitable for all ages and skill levels. Also used as a warm-up before heading out on the trails.

Bike Park (Orange)

    • The Downhill and Dirt Jump areas are two distinct zones.
    • The downhill zone starts from the wooden start tower, with four interlink runs each finishing at the Robin Hood Trail Climb from post 8. There is a series of rock drops and jumps in each run..
    • The Dirt Jump zone has a series of graded Freeride dirt jumps and a warm-up linear pump track. There are progressive lines of tabletops for the beginner to the advanced.

Off-Piste

  • Like most official riding spots, there is an unsanctioned, non-way-marked, off-piste trail scene. Some of the popular unofficial tracks are off the red/ blue tracks. Examples are Dragons Back, The Fish Bowl, Singletrack Heaven and Rollercoaster. Look out for the bomb holes or head down route 6, where there are plenty of long singletrack sections which veer off.

Quick fun blast.

None

What do you like?

It's not the longest or most difficult riding you'll do if you're a seasoned mtber. But it has potential to put a huge grin on your face. With no significant hills it's very pedally, that's not a bad thing. You'll get out what you put in. Spin those cranks up to warp factor 9 and you'll enjoy the flowey kitchener trail as it twist it's way through the forest. Drains really well so it's possible to ride it all year round. A below par downhill line and a progressive jump area are just off the main trail. Miles of alternative tracks off the kitchener trail mean you could spend hours connecting your route together. A great place for newcomers to improve trail riding skills. Excellent facilities cafe/bike hire.

What could be improved?

Only 13km main trail. Expensive parking on bank holidays.

First timer

Was recommended this route by other mtb'ers who have been visiting sherwood pines for years. Good recommendation.

What do you like?

Recently stayed at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest and decided to give Sherwood Pines a go for the first time wiht my brother. Have a 'Scott Genius 750' and although I've taken it off road, I hadn't yet had the chance to take it on a good mtb run due to priorities. I will say it was a good, just shy of a couple hours of fun. Ran the Kitchener and I would say as a beginner, I did just fine. Gave it what I could but feel next time I'll take it even faster.

What could be improved?

Nothing really bad to say, but maybe that's due to it being my first time running the route.

Regular attendee

I live 5mins away from pines so go every weekend. However I consider it a training centre to build stamina and test new equipment. They've made all trails the same base material as green route so that shows how easy they've made it. I prefer before they over maintained it the days of ruts, exposed tree roots and ending the day head to toe in mud.

What do you like?

Well maintened tracks however ... to be continued Cafe and pines cycle centre is always helpful and can repair your bike there and then.

What could be improved?

Trails are too easy - maintained too well (limestone paths) Expensive car parking (I have a discovery pass but £6 all day for non pass users is expensive)

kitchener Trail well worth couple of laps thro in dh line.

We went to the Italian restaurant behind mc donalds 10 quid average for quality main course and you can see bike well worth a visit.

What do you like?

Its a really easy trail young children would be able to ride all the trail safely its really good condition trails fast and has good flow love all the signs like western front ect.

What could be improved?

£6 pounds for all day parking £4 for 2 hours is extremely steep especially if you have travelled a good distance to come. The café expect you to leave your bike out of eye view as most mountain bikes are 3 or 4 grand doubt many would do that.

Would you recommend?

*Yes*
