Leckhampton Downhill Trails

  • Dirt tracks, technical climbs, and swooping singletrack, and a technical downhill track and jumps.
  • You will find steep technical trails located within the wooded areas on the escarpment above Daisybank Road. There is a large selection of short downhill runs (with short push-ups). You will find some good berm sections and quite a lot of technical descents averaging at between 1-3 minutes of descent time
  • There are more or less 2 jump/ sessioning areas, one is right at the bottom of the hill where there are some decent sized step downs , plenty of beginner features and quite are large right hip for the more experienced riders. In the second jump area, the quarry (about 1/3 of the way up the hill) ,there are 3 or so different jump lines to choose from, with 10-> 30 foot jumps to choose from.
  • Further up from the quarry there are some steeper trails with lots of tight corners, steep descents and a few jumps scattered in. The longest trail is the main line which leads into the quarry from the top of the hill and ends up next to the hip at the bottom by the car park. The push up takes quite a long time as it is quite steep and the downhill ends up being short for the same reason.
  • There are Black lines (e.g. Corporal, Quarry Line and Ski Jump etc), Reds (e.g. the Mainline, Martial, Dragon's Tail, the Coming, 2nd Coming, Mike's, Splinter and Old Mans Route, etc), and Blue's (like Twist and Shout, Going Down and Run Off, etc).
  • In Daisybank Fields there are lines of dirt jumps.
  • There is an active and welcoming community called the Leckhampton Downhill trails & trail fairies.
  • Cyclists have been granted permissive access by Cheltenham Borough Council to most areas of the hill and common. However, the open grassland is delicate and is protected by law (Site of Special and Scientific Interest). It is vital that cyclists only ride on established tracks, of which there are plenty for your enjoyment.

Cross Country

  • At the top of the hill there is a good amount of cross-country riding to be done and some good skill building areas for beginners and kids.

Leckhampton BMX Pump track

Cleeve Hill

  • Cleeve Hill is a big open area of grassland with a mix of lines and gradients all non-waymarked.

Other Stuff

  • The trails are accessible from 2 car parks at the bottom of the hill and one from the top (you need to go through a small quarry to reach the downhill area).

Leckhampton downhill

There are quite a lot of downhill trails on the hill. Some good berm sections and quite a lot of technical descents averaging at between 1-3 minutes of descent time. There are more or less 2 jump/ sessioning areas, one is right at the bottom of the hill where there are some decent sized step downs , plenty of beginner features and quite are large right hip for the more experienced riders. In the second jump area, the quarry (about 1/3 of the way up the hill) ,there are 3 or so different jump lines to choose from, with 10-> 30 foot jumps to choose from. Further up from the quarry there are some steeper trails with lots of tight corners, steep descents and a few jumps scattered in. The longest trail is the main line which leads into the quarry from the top of the hill and ends up next to the hip at the bottom by the car park. There is certainly no shortage of trails but the accessibility and ride-ability of some of the trails is questionable as a lot of the hill is very hard to ride for a majority of people. It can also be quite sketchy at times due to the steepness and the narrow nature of the trails and jumps with little regard for safety in some circumstances. The push up takes quite a long time as it is quite steep and the downhill ends up being short for the same reason. At the top of the hill there is a good amount of cross country riding to be done and some good skill building areas for beginners and kids. Yeh trails are accessible from 2 car parks at the bottom of the hill and one from the top (you need to go through a small quarry to reach the downhill area). Overall, it’s worth a visit if you’re in the area, but I find it hard to quantify it being worth a drive longer than an hour or so. There is a good amount of riding but it’s nothing incredible at the best of times, to be completely honest. There is also burrows pump at the bottom of the hill in town which is good for practicing on.

What do you like?

Lots to ride with some good parts to the hill. Pump track at the bottom of the hill. Good local scene. Good place to overcome fear. Good for people that like the steeps. Good accessibility from the car parks.

What could be improved?

Not the nicest trails a lot of the time. Bad push up as the trails are quite steep. A lot of the downhill trails are difficult to ride well.

Would you recommend?

yes
