Description

Lady Canning's Plantation Mountain Bike Trails are in Sheffield, on the edge of Houndkirk Moor close to the Peak National park 20 minutes from Sheffield centre. Lady Cannings has two blue mountain bike trails.

This was the first MTB trail in England where crowdfunding had been used to help drive the initial investment needed. Funding was also significantly supplemented by GO Outdoors. Lady Cannings is managed by Ride Sheffield who also manages Parkwoods Springs, Greno Woods, and Bolehills BMX.

Blue Steel

  • This trail is 1.4km long. It's flowy, with rollers and bumps throughout. You can pretty much ride it with minimal pedalling.

Cooking on Gas

  • Simply ride to the top of the plantation and, where you’d normally turn right on the forestry road, turn left for a slice of perfectly sculpted track. Divided into four sections, it has a distinct character aall its own, markedly different to Blue Steel. Once again blue in grade, more of a flow trail, it still incorporates some big features, so there’s fun for everyone. It is 1.6km in length.

Youth mountain bike project

A great trail that can be ridden over and over again on it's own or added to a XC ride around the numerous bridleways. Perfect for all abilities

What do you like?

I work for Kirklees Adventurous Activity Team, and have recently taken a group of young people up to the plantation to ride - needless to say they couldn't get enough of it. Even though ther is currently only a short section of trail built, it is a section that you will want to ride again and again. It's perfect to practice trail technique and hone skills.
The trail is clean and well managed and great fun.
The group I took there are wanting to return again as soon as possible

Nice addition to the local area & easy to combine into a bigger loop out onto houndkirk and beyond. Really flowy trail that gets faster the more you ride it. Great place for skill progression & newbies to get a feel for MTBing

What do you like?

Easy to session sections to develop skills, can be linked in to wider loops in the area & I can ride here from home :)

Lovely flowing addition to the natural trails

A great little flowing loop on the edge of the peak district, which means it can easily be thrown into a bigger ride on the amazing natural trails nearby. Perfect for beginners to start honing skills, and fun for more experienced riders. The trails are narrow and tree lined, so can easily catch you out if you get cocky or don't pay attention! I've intentionally left the facilities unmarked as there are none, but it isn't a trail centre. You pee in the trees like the bears do!

What do you like?

Lovely flowing trail. Beautifully crafted berms and rollers. Near a nice pub! On the edge of the peak district. Fun, fun, fun!

What could be improved?

Very short (but still sweet!). No facilities (but it isn't a trail centre).

Would you recommend?

*Yes*
