Description

Bolehills BMX Track is a volunteer-run BMX track and pump track in Walkley, Sheffield, with a history stretching back to the early 1980s. The track has 4 main straights, 9 different lines and a pump track built into the centre of the circuit, welcoming everything from balance bikes to full-size BMX and mountain bikes, with something for riders of every ability.

The Track

  • The track is large and progressive, with jumps ranging from small and mellow doubles, step-ups and rollers up to full trails, plus big berms and a tarmac start hill.
  • The backset, the track's most iconic set of jumps, is steep and progressive: rollable by beginners and boosted by experienced riders.
  • An inner pump track sits at the centre of the main circuit, with tight rollers and berms suited to everything from balance bikes to seasoned racers.
  • Scooters, skateboards, unaccompanied children and dogs are not permitted on the track, to protect the surface.

Local Organisation

  • The track is run entirely by volunteers under The Sheffield Dirt Society, with support from Ride Sheffield and Bike Track.
  • The Sheffield Dirt Society runs an annual Helltrack event, a BMX jam with music that raises funds for resurfacing and gets riders of all abilities out on the track together.
  • In 2024, "40 Years of Bolehills," a documentary telling the story of the track from its 1983 origins to the present day, screened at the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF).
