Lady Canning's Plantation Mountain Bike Trails are in Sheffield, on the edge of Houndkirk Moor close to the Peak National park 20 minutes from Sheffield centre. Lady Cannings has two blue mountain bike trails.

This was the first MTB trail in England where crowdfunding had been used to help drive the initial investment needed. Funding was also significantly supplemented by GO Outdoors. Lady Cannings is managed by Ride Sheffield who also manages Parkwoods Springs, Greno Woods, and Bolehills BMX.

Blue Steel

  • This trail is 1.4km long. It's flowy, with rollers and bumps throughout. You can pretty much ride it with minimal pedalling.

Cooking on Gas

  • Simply ride to the top of the plantation and, where you’d normally turn right on the forestry road, turn left for a slice of perfectly sculpted track. Divided into four sections, it has a distinct character aall its own, markedly different to Blue Steel. Once again blue in grade, more of a flow trail, it still incorporates some big features, so there’s fun for everyone. It is 1.6km in length.

Great trail NoN PrOfIt

Best BMX track in a natural setting in the UK. I mean why the fucl would you ride the beautiful and natural trails round herre when you have this lump of shit attracting nobs on shiny underused rides. At least it keeps the fuckwits off the proper trails :)

What do you like?

Close to sheffield and great pubs. Keep away numpties from proper trails in the area :)

What could be improved?

None

Awesome riding

This is one of the most accessible trails in the country, well supported by the community.

What do you like?

Easily accessible from Sheffield and quality trails that have been professionally constructed. Nearby pub for food and refreshment.

What could be improved?

Limited parking and occasionally closed by landowner. Busy at peak times

Ideal for kids

I was recommended Lady Cannings as an ideal place to take your kids for a ride, So I thought i'd give it a go with my 9 year old and we wasn't disappointed, The trail consisted of two blue graded routes both have great flow with big berms and rollers so requires very little pedalling, the only real handwork was the climb up the bridleway between the trails to get back to the top, So we took our time on the climb to save our enegry for the fun downhill bits. The setting for the trails is great as well, a commercially managed, coniferous, woodland which the routes twist and turn through adding to the fun and gave us the feeling that we had a proper days mountain biking. Looking forward to going back and adding the trails to an xc route in the area.

What do you like?

Brilliant for getting kids into Mountain biking. Well built trails Fast and fun

What could be improved?

Car parking and no Facilities

Banging track

Great trail, worth a look even if travelling to the area. Do contribute to Ride Sheffields next project at Rad mires - these two tracks could be linked into a fantastic day's ride. http://www.ridesheffield.org.uk/2015/12/radmires-new-crowd-funder-announced/

What do you like?

Great flow and nice rolling sections. Suitable for all riders as it gets progressively harder the faster you ride it. Just a joy to see this being developed and so many people getting a kick out of riding it.

What could be improved?

Easy access to the areas leaves the trail vulnerable to the irresponsible riders and non-riders alike. Also just wish it was even longer (although it's a nice length and an easy spinback to the top on the fireroad.

What do you like?

Grear trial for all skill types. Would highly suggest to anybody.

What could be improved?

None. Wish there was a bit more to it but who's to say that we won't see development in the future?

Swoop factor

Overall a great crowd funded trail for all levels and shows just what can be done

What do you like?

A well looked after swooping trail for all levels, short and sharp with enough in it to challenge the majority of riders....

What could be improved?

Short but that's due to land constraints also as its single track you can often get caught up behind slower riders or children with almost no places to pass them but again that's due to it being open for all skill levels.

Would you recommend?

*Yes*
