Southwest is best
For one of the best riding areas in the uk, venture down to Devon! Make a weekend of it, ride both sites, get the beers in and leave with a smile on your face. Come and ride Gawton and Tavistock woodlands ( but make sure to buy a day pass! ) .
As you may be able to tell I am a little biased - but it's all worth it ;)
What do you like?
Both Tavistock woodlands and Gawton gravity hub cater for all ages and abilities. Gawton is a great, well served riding area ranging from the beginners favourite, HSD and the mental new Megatavi course. Efficient uplift service from Flyup who also serve the Forest Of Dean site and skills coaching sessions from World Cup racer Jay Williamson. And Tavistock woodlands is a great site for those new to the sport with a variety of jump features and different short courses. I have been involved with the riding scene around the Tavistock area now for around 16 years and can honestly say that it is one of the most well served towns in the uk for cycling. Great xc loops on dartmoor, purpose built dirt jumps in the town centre and a cool pump track at the Gawton site.
What could be improved?
Every site has the same issue - although it would be great to have perfectly manicured 'whistler-esque' trails, both sites are maintained by volunteers so maintenance does suffer some times, but with better weather comes extensive trail work. Woodland riders run one of the best, most fun and affordable mini race series which takes it's toll but we will keep doing it!
