Description
Gallagher Park BMX Track is a 250 metre regional standard BMX race track in Gallagher Park, Bedlington, and the home of Barnesbury Cycling Club. Clark and Kent Contractors rebuilt it to race standard, with step-ups, doubles, triples, rollers and berms.
The Track
- This is a BMX race track, 250 metres long, with hard-packed straights and asphalt berms.
- The original track had been in use for ten years when Barnesbury Cycling Club raised the money for Clark and Kent Contractors to rebuild it to regional standard, so it could host races.
- Funding came from Sport England, the town and county councils, the Banks Community Fund, the Barnes Fund and the Wingrove Motor Company.
The Club
- Barnesbury Cycling Club, formed in 1923 and one of the oldest cycling clubs in North East England, runs coached BMX sessions here, including open sessions for beginners and regular riders.
- The club can lend bikes and kit, so ask when you book. At BMX sessions you need your arms and legs covered.
- The club also runs a winter BMX race series, with rounds at Gallagher Park and other North East tracks.
Also in the Park
- Gallagher Park has football pitches, a play area, woodland, wildflower meadows and a mountain biking course, and a Sustrans cycle route runs through it.
Getting Here
- Gallagher Park, Rothesay Terrace, Bedlington, NE22 5PU.
