Delamere has been upgraded at last. There is a new car park with great facilities onsite including a big cafe with undercover outdoor seating. For bikers there is a fully stocked bike shop with bike hire and bike wash for £1.50. There is a new 4km blue graded trail which flows nicely joining on from the grey trails that were previously there. Delamere also has Old Pale Hill within it's borders which is a short climb up just left of the visitor centre. There are some off piste tracks coming down back through the woodland area which are fun for a quick blast. Of course there is Manley Hill on the other side of the woodland which is good for sessioning with a little track and a few jump if you look for them.
What do you like?
Brand new facilities - cafe with outdoor seating. Bike shop with hire and bike wash. New blue graded trail
What could be improved?
None for me but people may not want to pay for parking which they say goes back into the development of the park/forestry
I will be going back as mentioned before but this place needs more markers in place as I found myself blasting down dirt trails to be confronted with dead ends or trails not passable due to tree felling hence having to go back on my journey. Did enjoy going up to the old pale opposite the cafe/car park which takes you to the transmitter mast and with some great views which is worth the hard work biking it up there. While i was out I just said to myself get lost and follow any trail and see what happens which i did but this place needs more markers to guide us on the way but this may be due to my lack of knowledge of the trails so i stand to be corrected. One point I will mention is you can park on ashton rd at the back end of the forest for free then bike it to the trails and not have to worry about the car park closing while you are out having fun.
What do you like?
Easy to find with lots of facilities like cafe, bike shop and toilets etc but parking is at a cost.
What could be improved?
To be fair it's my first time on a bike at delamere and I will be going again but i felt let down by the lack of marker signs helping me on my way. After 5 mins i found myself following a fellow mtb rider as he looked like a regular to the trails which helped me gain some knowledge and direction. I agree with other comments on here as it feels more geared up towards the walkers than bikers.
The place seems to be going out of its way to remove its more advanced mountain biking features and confine cyclists to fire roads. There are far better bike parks available that give more bang per buck.
What do you like?
Short loop, ideal for beginners or family rides.
What could be improved?
£6 for all day parking, none of which seems go towards trail building.
As a seasoned mountain biker the trails were very disappointing. The "No Brains" bike park should be renamed to "No Features" as all the best features have been bulldozed by the forestry commission. The features that still remain are unmarked and unofficial tracks built by locals. All tracks that could be found were relatively short 30 second blasts.
The 4X track could be good however this has been closed and has had trees felled across it in multiple places to ensure no fun can be had.
A narrow and sketchy gully is the main entrance to the jumps, and when I say narrow I mean my 740mm bars were scraping the sides! After brushing up on some skills on a small jump we found something bigger, dropped the seatpost, put on some pads and hit it! A few feet of air at the start, but after a bit of practice and a faster entry speed the Cagua and James were nailing it pretty hard! - See more at: http://www.globalbike.co.uk/blog/no-brains-bike-park-delamere/#sthash.AmooLTrm.dpuf
Delamare is a strange place, you either love it or hate it.
There are two way-marked family trails that are a good starting point for any newcomers to the forest and are well surfaced and have good route markings.
Once you have gained your bearings its best to just head off and explore, pretty much any track you see can be ridden and given the forests compact nature you can't really get lost.
Trails can become very muddy in the winter but that all adds to the fun.
Best option and what I've always done is hook up with the local bike shop evening rides (Thursday eve from the shop) and they will take you on all the 'hidden' trails.
What do you like?
Lots of unmarked trails
Good cafe ,bike shop and lots of parking
Good for beginners due to lack of climbing and limited technical features on the official trails.
