Description
Castle Cary Pump Track is an asphalt circuit of rollers and berms on the Fairfield recreation ground in Castle Cary, Somerset. It was built by Clark and Kent Contractors for Castle Cary Town Council and sits beside the children's play area at Fairfield.
The Track
Clark and Kent Contractors describe the track as designed to build confidence in younger riders while still giving more experienced riders an engaging BMX-style ride. It is a compact asphalt circuit with white edge lines, laid out as a run of rollers and berms through a grassy hollow, and you ride it by pumping your body through the features rather than pedalling.
Fairfield Recreation Ground
Fairfield is a community recreation space of about five acres, bought in 2014 by Castle Cary Town Council and Ansford Parish Council and lying between Castle Cary and Ansford. Alongside the pump track it has play equipment, a meadow gym, an adventure trail, a climbing fort and a sensory garden.
Getting Here
Head for Fairfield, which is bounded by Churchfield Drive and Priory View in Castle Cary, and follow the paths across the open space to the pump track beside the play area. Castle Cary is reached from the A303 and has its own railway station.
