Capstone Farm Country Park

Capstone Farm Country Park is a 114 hectare Medway Council park on the North Downs between Chatham and Gillingham, with one dedicated mountain bike trail, a short and easy cross country loop of around 2km through the park's woodland. Alongside it are three family cycle loops of 1.5km, 2.5km and 5km and a 4.5km bridleway, so it suits a quick training lap or a first taste of off-road riding more than a full day out.

The Trails

• Mountain bike trail: a short cross country loop of around 2km on the wooded southern side of the park, with a few features but nothing very technical. It is the only trail at Capstone built for mountain bikes and is shown separately from the family loops on the council's cycle trails map.
• Family cycle trails: three waymarked circular loops of 1.5km, 2.5km and 5km on the park's paths through Capstone Wood, Drove Hill Wood and the surrounding meadows, starting close to the Orchard car park. They are a good fit for younger riders and anyone building confidence.
• Bridleway: a 4.5km loop around the park shared with horse riders, crossing the other trails at several points.

The council's trail code asks riders to use the return route rather than walking or pushing back up the mountain bike trail, to stop only where it is safe and never block the trail, to give way to people ahead of you, and to look ahead before taking on any feature. Every trail here is shared with walkers, dog walkers or horse riders somewhere along its length, so take care at crossing points.

Facilities

• The visitor centre by the main car park has a cafe and toilets, and the park also has children's play areas, picnic areas and a fishing lake.

Getting Here

• The main car park is on Capstone Road, Chatham, ME7 3JG, next to the visitor centre and cafe.
• The Orchard car park, further along Capstone Road, is the closer start for the cycle trails.
• Both car parks are pay and display, at £3.50 a day for cars at the time of writing, with free parking for Blue Badge holders and a Medway country parks season ticket available. Pay by cash, card, contactless or RingGo. Prices are correct as of September 2026 but subject to change, so check the Medway Council park page before you go.
• The car parks are locked every evening, at times that vary through the year from 4.30pm in winter to 8.30pm in summer, so plan to be back in good time.
• Chatham and Gillingham railway stations are both a few kilometres to the north, with a ride through town to reach the park.
