Description

Dare Valley ‘Family’ Gravity Bike Park is in Aberdare, South Wales. It is targeted at families and beginner/intermediate riders. It operates an uplift which is great for the kids. There is also bike hire, coaching, a cafe, workshop, and accommodation on site.

If you are looking for an introduction to mountain biking and bike parks then this is a great place to start. They are the first UK bike park targeted specifically at families.

The Trails

  • Currently, there is just one main blue trail with safe technical trail features (rollers, berms, tabletops, latter can all be rolled). Think smooth flowing berms and gradients that are not steep or off-putting.
  • Blues make it fun and safe for new riders as well as offer more experienced riders opportunities to let it rip.
  • The trail splits twice on the way down giving options (i.e. heads off to the pump track you circle around before continuing down the blue)
  • At the trailhead by the kids' play area, you will also find a  tarmac pump track. Good to warm up on before setting off.

Other Stuff

  • The uplift is great for the kids and newbies to introduce them to bike park riding by taking away the pain (remember kids have smaller legs and heavier bikes)
  • The runs are short so it is just a ten-fifteen ride up if you wish
  • There is also an adventure playground for the kids
  • It was run by the good folks' from Pedalabikeaway of Forest of Dean fame. Pedalabikeaway though ceased to operate Dare Valley Gravity Bike Park in Aberdare from 9th May 2023. They were unable to get permission to expand the existing trails to make the operation commercially viable, so handed the operation back to the council.
  • It was built by Trailcraft and opened in August 2021
  • Situated in the wider Dare Valley Country Park. Here you will also find walking, swimming, sky watching, great countryside views, as well as wider trail riding in the park.
  • There is accommodation with a Caravan site and shower facilities. There are also family rooms, wheelchair-accessible rooms, and dog-friendly rooms available at the on-site accommodation.

Great beginner tracks

Lovely little trail centre. Free to ride. Pay for uplift and/or bike hire.

What do you like?

Close to bike park wales. Accommodation available. Lovely town and wider park on edge of Brecon Beacons. Great cafe and local community hub.

What could be improved?

Only really introductory blue flow trails with some pump tracks. If you want tech, just ride the mountains, if you want bigger jumps, go to BPW.

Would you recommend?

yes

Dare to Double

Great beginner track. Classed as blue trails. 3 pump tracks, a main flow trail, lots of jumps but all can be rolled: no gaps.

What do you like?

free to ride, only pay for uplift if you don’t fancy the 15min pedal to the top.

Yes
