Bikepark Kálnica

Bikepark Kálnica, now branded Freeride Bikepark Kálnica, is a purpose-built, lift-served bike park in western Slovakia with around 18 downhill, enduro, dirt jump and pump track lines graded green through black, plus a 4X track and a skills area with an airbag landing.

The Trails

• Around 18 lines cover the hillside, from green beginner runs to black downhill trails, served all day by a drag lift.
• Named lines include the green Mamasita for beginners, blue runs such as Funny Enduro and Super Enduro, red lines including Era and Fox, and black downhill trails such as Vito, Big Vito, Australia and Comeback.
• A dedicated 4X track and dirt jump lines sit alongside the descent trails, and the skills area includes an airbag landing for practising jumps safely.
• Two pump tracks, an asphalt track and a separate clay dual-line track, run alongside the lift-served park on a cheaper ticket.
• Kálnica sits at a low altitude, so the season runs from March to December, and some sessions run into the evening under lights.
• The park hosts a round of the Moravian-Slovak Downhill Cup and the Dusty Days freeride weekend each season, plus the Bikefest festival, an FMB World Tour slopestyle stop, each year.

Facilities

• An adult day pass with lift access costs 30 euros (25 euros for ages 8 to 12, 20 euros under 8), with a reduced rate after 4pm (20 euros for adults, 15 euros ages 8 to 12, 10 euros under 8); pump track only access is 10 euros (8 euros, 6 euros). Multi-visit cards run from 100 to 150 euros for 5 visits plus 1 free, and 200 to 300 euros for 10 visits plus 3 free depending on age category, and private group bookings are also available.
• Bike rental covers Trek Remedy 27.5 and Trek Slash 29 models, sized S to XL across the two, at 60 euros for one day, 110 euros for two days or 150 euros for three, plus a refundable 100 euro deposit.
• Free camping is available on site with a buffet, toilets and 24 hour showers. Nearby paid accommodation includes hotels and guesthouses in Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Beckov.

Guides, Shuttles and Hire

The bikepark's own drag lift is the uplift here, included in the day ticket, so there is no separate van shuttle to arrange. The bikepark also runs its own bike hire and guided e-bike day trips into the surrounding Považský Inovec hills.

• Freeride Bikepark Kálnica bike hire: Trek Remedy 27.5 and Trek Slash 29 enduro bikes in sizes S to XL, hired by the day at the bikepark base, with online booking recommended at least 48 hours ahead.
• Freeride Bikepark Kálnica e-bike tours: guided e-bike day trips into the Považský Inovec hills, including a route to Beckov Castle at around 100 euros per person with the e-bike, a local guide, castle admission and refreshments included, run by the bikepark and bookable directly with them.

Getting There from the UK

Bikepark Kálnica is a flight-first trip. Bratislava is the closest airport, around 100km and roughly an hour and a quarter by road. Vienna, about 170km and around two hours away, and Brno, around 120km and a little over two hours away, are and worth comparing for routes and fares. All three have a reasonable choice of flights from the UK.

Overland rail from the UK is a long trip, better suited to a dedicated cycling holiday than a quick weekend away: Eurostar to Brussels or Paris, then onward European trains via Vienna or Prague towards Trenčín or Nové Mesto nad Váhom, easily a full day or more of travel with an overnight stop or a night train somewhere along the way. Bikes need planning on every high-speed leg, so check each operator's current bike policy before you book.

Driving from Calais or the Channel Tunnel is around 1,430km, roughly 15 hours on motorways through Belgium, Germany and either Austria or Czechia. Slovakia requires a paid electronic motorway vignette, and Austria and Czechia each require their own vignette for any motorway you use crossing those countries, so budget for whichever route you take.

However you arrive, the bikepark sits at Kálnica 428, 916 37 Kálnica, about 6km from Nové Mesto nad Váhom: leave the D1 motorway at the Beckov exit and follow signs into the village, where the car park is right at the bikepark entrance. There is no direct public transport to the bikepark itself, so plan the last leg by car or taxi; the nearest railway and bus connections are in Nové Mesto nad Váhom.

When to Go

The lift-served season normally runs from around March to December, open Fridays and weekends, with some sessions running into the evening under lights, and the park closes over the coldest winter months. Early and late season riding can be cooler and wetter, so the middle of the season, roughly May to September, tends to give the most reliable trail conditions.

Race and festival weekends, above all Bikefest, bring the biggest crowds, so expect the park to be busiest then and quieter outside them.

Kálnica sits at a low altitude in the Považský Inovec foothills, so conditions are milder than an Alpine bike park, but Central European summer storms can still make the natural sections greasy for a while after rain, so check conditions before a long drive out.

Where to Stay

The bikepark itself is the simplest base: free camping is available on site, with a buffet, toilets and 24 hour showers a short walk from the trails. Nové Mesto nad Váhom, about 6km away, is the practical alternative if you want a hotel or guesthouse, with more choice of places to eat and its own railway and bus station for onward travel. Beckov, a similar distance the other side of the bikepark and home to the ruined castle visited on the bikepark's own guided tours, has a smaller choice of guesthouses and makes a quieter, more scenic base.
