Skye Mountain Biking
Skye mountain bike trails are spread across the Isle of Skye in the Inner Hebrides, Scotland, best known for the Cuillin's rocky ridgeline made famous by Danny MacAskill's ride along it. This is a diffuse, island-wide network rather than a single trail centre, spanning routes from the Quiraing in the north to Glen Brittle in the south.
The Trails
- The most popular areas are the Quiraing loop, Glen Sligachan and the Sligachan loop. Riding here is remote, rocky and often boggy, with dramatic scenery throughout.
- The whole island is also popular with walkers, so be aware of foot traffic. Scotland's open access laws mean most terrain you see can be ridden, but stay cautious and respectful of other users.
- Third-party GPX sources have previously listed an 18km looped route and a shorter 6.5km Quiraing loop, though these have not been independently re-verified this session.
Getting Here
- Sligachan, at the A87/A863 junction, is the recommended start point for the Sligachan loop and Glen Sligachan routes. Park at Sligachan Old Bridge Car Park, which is free.
- Quiraing car park, on the Trotternish Peninsula in the north, serves the Quiraing loop.
- Glen Brittle, to the south, gives access to the Cuillin and a forestry loop extension.
- Routes are spread right across the island, so plan each ride from its own trailhead rather than relying on a single base for everything.
