Description

Oban's mountain biking is volunteer-built rather than a single trail centre. The North Argyll Trail Association, part of Adventure Oban, builds and maintains trails at three sites in and around the town, Glencruitten Woods, Ganavan and Ben Lora, with the landowners' permission and riding that runs from cross country to enduro.

The Trails

  • Glencruitten Woods: a spruce plantation on the hillside at the edge of Oban, with forest roads and old tracks joined by trails built by local mountain bikers. The trails are not waymarked, so download a route or use GPS navigation before you set off.
  • Ganavan: on the coast just north of Oban, where the association also builds and maintains trails.
  • Ben Lora: the association's third site, where it also holds dig days.

The trails are built and looked after by volunteers with the landowners' permission, so please ride considerately, keep off any trail that is being worked on, and follow any signs you meet on site.

Local Organisations

The North Argyll Trail Association brings Oban's mountain bikers together and builds its relationships with the landowners at each site. It holds dig days on Sunday mornings and on evenings when the midges allow, and all ages and abilities are welcome. To join in, email na.trailassoc@gmail.com to be added to the group's WhatsApp.

Getting Here

  • Glencruitten Woods is on the edge of Oban, and Ganavan is on the coast just north of the town, with a car park at Ganavan Sands by the beach.
  • Oban has its own railway station, with trains from Glasgow.
  • Contact the association for current access points and parking at each site before you ride.
