Description
Learnie Red Rock mountain bike trails are located on the Black Isle (north of Inverness), close to the Moray Firth in the Scottish Highlands. The site originally offered 16km of trails including green family routes, blue loops, a black trail, a Bike Park-style orange downhill trail, and a dirt jump area. However, following felling in 2025, the black-graded zone — including Learnie Hill — has now been removed. Earlier felling saw the same fate for the red trails. Some of the original technical features no longer exist. A reduced trail network remains open. We strongly recommend checking first their socials for current trail statuses prior to visiting.

Home Green (Green)
- The Home Green is a short 0.5km green graded section but unlike most greens has lots of singletrack with some rugged features (e.g. tabletops) thrown in.. The jumps can be negotiated at slow speed and rolled over mind hence it is still a beginners trail.
Green Link (Green)
- The Green link is another green graded section for families and beginners.
Callachy Hill Climb (Blue)
- This is a 1.5km blue section of climbing track.
Callachy Downhill (Blue)
- The Callachy Downhill is a blue graded twisting 1.3km descent with tight twisting single track and berms.
Muirhead Climb (Blue)
- Muirhead Climb is a 1.1km blue graded section with a climb that connects to the Firth View.
Firth View (Blue)
- Firth View consists of 2.2km's of blue graded trail.
Learnie Hill (Black) - *No longer accessible*
- Learnie Hill is a black graded trail. It is a technically demanding trail and it includes the Quarry Climb and Traacy's Trees, an optional downhill rock feature. There are many rocky sections and features and some North Shore. Renowned sections are Seisometer, Gyroscope, and the "unique rock horseshoe," Dextrality. Finally there is Mephisto a 10ft stone-pitched drop from the bank to the road.
Bike Park Downhill Trail (Orange)
- This Orange graded 1.1 km downhill trail has many jumps, big berms and jumps.
Dirt Jumps (Orange)
- The dirt jump area is graded Orange and is adjacent to the car park, in the woodlands east of the A832 Rosemark to Cromarty Road. This area includes three different levels of jump, from beginner to expert.
Other Stuff
- The trails were designed by Paul Masson of Cycletherapy, who also designed the Laggan Wolftrax trails
- Launched in 2006 funding was obtained to build on top of the existing trail network that had evolved and been built up by locals over the years.
