Description
Learnie Red Rocks is a purpose-built mountain bike trail centre on the Black Isle, managed by Forestry and Land Scotland, around 10 miles north of Inverness close to the Moray Firth. The site originally offered 16km of trails across all grades, but successive rounds of timber felling have significantly reduced the network. The red-graded trails and the black Learnie Hill zone have both been lost to felling operations. A reduced network of green, blue and orange trails remains open. The Black Isle Trails Association work with FLS to maintain the trails. Always check their Facebook page for current trail status before visiting.

The Trails
- Learnie Home Run (green, 0.5km): The entry-level trail and a great introduction to singletrack. Short but features tabletops that can be rolled at slow speed, making it suitable for beginners and younger riders.
- Green Link (green): A second green-graded section connecting parts of the network, suitable for families and beginners.
- Callachy Blue Climb (blue, 1.5km): A winding climb through larch woodland to the top of Callachy Hill.
- Callachy Blue Downhill (blue, 1.3km): A twisting, flowing descent from the top of Callachy Hill with berms and tight singletrack. Note: this trail was closed for maintenance in March 2026 β check the FLS local alerts page for current status.
- Muirhead Climb (blue, 1.1km): A connecting blue climb linking to the Firth View trail.
- Firth View (blue, 2.2km): Blue-graded trail with some of the best views on the network, looking out over the Moray Firth.
- Bike Park Downhill (orange, 1.1km): A downhill trail with large bermed corners, tabletops and double jumps. Check current status before riding.
- Dirt Jumps (orange): Three progressive jump lines adjacent to the car park, from beginner to expert.
- Learnie Hill (black): Permanently closed following felling operations. This trail is no longer accessible.
