Description

Inverness Royal Academy Bike Trails is a mountain bike skills loop in the grounds of the secondary school on Culduthel Road: three separate trails, over 600 metres in all, with big berms, table top jumps, a rock drops line and rollers. It is free for the public to ride outside school hours, in the evenings and on weekends.

The Trails

  • Three separate trails, over 600 metres in all, laid out on a grassy bank between the school's sports pitches and Culduthel Road.
  • Features include big berms, table top jumps, a line of rock drops, rollers and rock gardens, built to develop skills and balance, with options for riders of different abilities.
  • Built by Ronan Taylor of Raylors Trail Design, a Black Isle trail builder, with funding from The Highland Council, sportscotland's Cycling Facilities Fund and local fundraising.
  • The trails began as a project of the school's PE department and are used for lessons and coaching sessions during the school day.

Access

  • Open to the public outside school hours only. The gates are locked at 10pm Monday to Friday.
  • At weekends the trails open at 9am. The gates are locked at 1pm in term time, though this can vary, so check the big blue sign by the pitch on the day, and at 1.30pm in the school holidays.
  • For anything not covered here, check the sports centre's opening times or call it on 01463 667820.
  • If the gates are locked, the trails are closed. Pack up and leave before locking-up time so you are not locked in.
  • The school asks riders to ride responsibly, look after each other and leave no trace. Keep bikes away from the sports centre building and the astro pitch entrances, be mindful of other people using the site, and dismount when passing the main entrance.

Getting Here

  • Inverness Royal Academy is on Culduthel Road, Inverness, IV2 6RE, on the south side of the city. Park in the Inverness Royal Academy Sports Centre car park.
  • The trails are at the south-east corner of the school grounds, beside the sports pitches and Culduthel Road, a short walk from the car park.
  • The car park is shared with the High Life Highland sports centre, and its gates are locked at the times above.

Nearby

  • Inverness Pump Track in Bught Park, by the River Ness, is free to ride with floodlights into the evening.
