Final section of red xc trail is just the greatest laugh/scary stuff/as close to flying on a xc bike it gets for me; i am not up to full downhill or manic red route descent but this is a real joy and challenge for those red routers who like a bit of adrenalin rush
I love this trail cos you go up knowing what fun you are going to have coming down, and it is just a simple up then down.
The trail up may be bit steppy but can be avoided by doing fire road for most of the first half, and the second half up is more routine red trail; when you get to top the views are amazing in all directions, and worth parking the bike to walk off to left to loof down the valley
Downhill is just great fun, the first 3 sections being full of fast flow and manageable jumps; after a bit of fire road the trail goes into `rock garden`, which is good reminder not to get too relaxed as there are few rocky surprises, and then onto the bank, which is scary at first as the drop offs are quite big and even the chicken runs to the left look awesome but then you just get carried away by the rollercoaster and final forest downhill sections that it is impossible not to end with a bloody great grin on your face and that wonderful sense of relief that your heading to the bar and not A&E
What do you like?
Fantastic downhill
Good variety of trail
Keeps it simple- you go up; then you come down
So quiet compared to Glentress
Great views from the top
Would you recommend?
*Yes*
