Description

Dundee has a network of mountain bike trails spread across its parks and woodlands, ranging from a purpose-built skills trail to natural routes linking the city's green spaces. The trails are managed by Dundee City Council and can largely be connected via the Green Circular, Dundee's off-road cycle network.

Templeton Tangle

  • The Templeton Tangle is Dundee's dedicated MTB skills trail, located in Templeton Woods on the north-western edge of the city. Built by Architrail Velosolutions and opened in 2014 with Commonwealth Games Legacy funding, the trail winds through a woodland plantation with a mix of technical features including steps, drops, jumps, tight corners, and rock and root obstacles.
  • The blue trail has easier options around features and suits riders with some off-road experience. The red trail is for more experienced riders. A quality mountain bike and helmet are required.
  • The trail starts near the Water Tower on Gallow Hill, the highest point in Dundee. Access via the Green Circular through Camperdown Park, crossing Coupar Angus Road into Templeton Woods. From the south, join via Clatto Park.
  • Trail maintenance is community-led. Contact the Dundee City Council Countryside Ranger Service for dig day information.

Park and Woodland Routes

  • Dundee City Council publishes route cards for five natural MTB routes across the city's parks, ranging from 1.5km to 5km. These are mostly natural trails on multi-use paths and suitable for a range of abilities. The full set is available at the Dundee Mountain Bike Trails page on the council website.
  • The Law Loop (1.5km), Balgay Trail (2.2km), Camperdown Tracks (5km), Templeton Trails (3.2km), and Caird Park Trails (1.5km) are all covered. The council recommend Camperdown Tracks and Templeton Trails as the strongest options.
  • All routes share paths with walkers, horse riders and dog walkers. Ride to conditions and give other users plenty of space.
