A good introduction to riding the hills around Stirling.
A Week up in Stirling meant that I couldnt ignore the presence of Dumyat above me. I quick search showed that it was a popular ride with local MTB'ers. So one fine evening, I drove up to the car park and unloaded my bike and aimed for the top. The rocky nature of the trail meant that I was soon pushing up the path. Once the beacon is reached, a few minutes to catch my breath and admire the view out over the river Forth and then the descent! Quite technical negotiating the rocks through the low sunlight meant my sight was fixed firmly a few feet ahead of my wheel to ensure I wasn't spat over the bars or slide of the trail in some of the narrower points. All too soon I was back at the road. options from here would include taking to the woods back to the university, but as the light was fading and my car was up here, I had to drive back down.
A good introduction to the hills of Scotland for someone more used to the chalk and flint of the South Downs.I'd spend more time and try out the woodland trails if I had more time.
Good points:
A good test of technical trail riding and negotiating rocky trails.
Lovely views.
Bad points:
it's an uphill push for most of the climb.
