Drumtochty Trails

  • Most of the trails are on Strathfinella Hill, and Black Hill on the opposite side of the road from the North Drumtochty Car Park.
  • They are easily accessed by trails a hundred yards or so up the road from the car park, turn either right or left as you exit.
  • The terrain is loamy, and fast draining. Many of the trails are short, but they are close to each other so can be linked up.
  • Some of the popular tracks include Sitka, Dundee Down (Blacks) and Keep Your Trout in Your Pants, Keyfinder and Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 and Stage 4, Lockdown, Quarry Run and F & F (reds).
  • The routes to the north side of Glen Drumtochty road also provide a way of accessing Fetteresso Forest and its mountain bike routes.
  • There is a lot of great MTB in Aberdeenshire, including Tarland Trails, Scolty Hill, Pitfichie, Aboyne and Ballater

Other Stuff

  • There are also access trails suitable for gravel bikes in the forest
  • Drumtochty features in the Aberdeenshire Enduro Series competitions.
  • Aberdeenshire Trail Association are involved in maintaining the trails.
  • There are limited facilities (no toilets, closest in Auchenblae). It is served by a three car parks.

Great trails especially vally, vally down one of the best trails in the east.

What could be improved?

Access not so good, some of the lesser used trails on north side of pheso could do of some work.

Excellent venue well worth the trip. Just don't try to park above the kennels. The owners aren't very friendly

What do you like?

Well maintained trails, the trails can be ridden by most skill levels. Just depends how fast you ride how hard they are.

What could be improved?

I don't ride an ebike so can be a bit of a slog to get to the top

Lots of natural trails.

A fantastic amount of trails. They are everywhere, and an asset to the community.

What do you like?

Lots of trails and good sense of community.

What could be improved?

Storm damage and badly cut trees makes some of the trails unsafe and unpleasant to pass through even though they are 'open'. It is messy and could use some help fixing them up. Lack of parking at times and these are wild trails so no facilities.

yes

Fun for all levels - absolute gem!

Independently built - its really incredible what a small number of people have done!

What do you like?

Variety of trails, some really technical trails but enough for beginners too. Various entry points to the forest depending on the trails you want to do. Easily spend the whole day there without riding the same trail twice.

What could be improved?

You need trailsforks, most routes are tricky to find without it. This is not a trail center, there are no facilities.

Would you recommend?

yes
