Description

Comrie Croft mountain bike trails are set in a private estate in the Strathearn Valley in Perthshire, Scotland. There are 21km of trails in total plus a lot of natural trails in the Strathearn Valley. At the centre are black, red and blue trails and a skills park. The facilities include cafe, bike shop, hire, toilets and car park.

Like this?

There is a Blue trail, around 4kms, a Network of Red Trails (a mix of handbuilt and machine-built trails), and a Black Trail. There is also a Bike Skills area with jumps & drops and a pump track

The MTB network is always developing and there is also bike shop, hire, repairs, coaching, guiding, bunkhouse, eco-camping & The Tea Garden cafe on site.

Red

  • The red trail is around 6kms long, all red graded but has sections that are technical and possibly a bit harder than other reds in Scotland. It is a good mix of being very natural, and feature-packed with features such as the bedrock slab, off-camber descents, rock garden, the water splash, and fun descents. There is a downhill black XC section from the top of the red which is technical. In total there are five red sections of trail:
    • Rock Lobster
    • Stan Salvador
    • Forest Stump
    • The Muddy Rut
    • Phil Mabracker

Blue

  • Rick Allsop (Trail Builder) has developed a Blue Graded trails adding 4km of trail packed full of features and for all abilities. Split into three segments:
    •  Dual of the Earn
    • Cookie Monster
    • Dark side of the blue.

Black

  • The black has steep descents, rocky terrain, and tight turns. There are three black sections:
    • Natural Gold
    • Hairy Coo Black
    • Sloppy Joes

Bike Skills Area

  • Due May 2025, the refreshed and re-bullt area will feature a brand new smooth pump track, designed to be accessible not just for mountain bikes but also for skateboards and BMX.

All Abilities Multi-use Trail - The Slow Worm

  • In 2025 Comrie Croft welcomed an all-abilities, multi-use trail in its front field. The trail is designed to be accessible for a wide range of users, supporting inclusive outdoor recreation.

Natural trails

  • There are loads in this area in the Strathearn Valley and the shop will help sort you with either easy, medium, difficult or expert-grade routes. Many of these start from the Comrie Croft Centre e.g Comrie village (easy, 4 miles), Loch Turret circular (difficult, 10 miles), Breafordie circular (medium, 6 miles), or the Loch Tay expedition (expert, 20-30 miles).

A wee gem

What do you like?

Natural trails, not your average trail center, great ( truly great) cafe

What could be improved?

Not the highest vertical terrain , but they make the very best of what they have

Would you recommend?

*Yes*

Loved comrie from the first visit and seeing it grow over the years is always good, looking forward to seeing how it progresses in the future.

What do you like?

The trails have great flow yet still feel natural even though it's a trail centre. The red/black loop up top of the hill is brilliant, you can feel miles away from anywhere yet still be in easy reach of the centre at the bottom of the hill. The car park doesn't cost a fortune but donations are always welcome and the trails are never overly busy, so no waiting about at the trail head and best of all, the climb isn't a killer! The new bike shop and farm shop are also very good, the bike shop for its size has everything you could possibly need, they also have a workshop and do bike hire. There's a great skills park too and a bike wash for keeping your steed looking pretty.

What could be improved?

Cafe shut for the winter but it is opening in the spring and going to be bigger and better.

Would you recommend?

*Yes*

Great fun

Great fun that includes different levels of riders. Lots to try and also good to develop skills on as well. New bike shop and farm shop are really nice with helpful staff too. Will be back for more riding throughout 2017 for sure!

Natural feeling trail centre

Definitely my favourite trail centre, for the reasons listed above.

What do you like?

Very natural feeling trails, despite being a "trail centre". You can link the trails to make a decent length ride. Very cool bike shop. Eco-attitude is evident. Skills loop is great for wee ones (and not so wee ones).

What could be improved?

Wish it was bigger. Would be nice to have the cafe open all year round.

Would you recommend?

*Yes*

Superb trails.

Very compact trail network with lots of opportunities to mix and match red/blue/black and secret old stuff! Top red route is my favourite - sometimes go up there and do 3 or 4 laps. Blue is a blast with just about anybody and is great for kids. The top blue is very blue going on red. Some of the red is red going on black but as long as you know that it is fine. Some of the old trails from the original Hairy Coo route are also excellent. Then there are the trails heading out for some 'old school' riding in all directions. Cafe is now open much more often and the bike shop is excellent in that they actually fix stuff!

What do you like?

Red and blue trails. Cafe. Bike Shop.

What could be improved?

None.

I love Comrie Croft

If you fail to have a good time then there is something wrong with you.

What do you like?

For such a small place, they have packed the trails in. There is something to challenge any rider and plenty of variation to keep you coming back for laps of their wee hill. There are loads of cool trail features from tailor made bridges, big slabs of bedrock, river gaps, as well as the usual kind of tech, flow and jumps. Great cafe too.

What could be improved?

Too far from my house.

Would you recommend?

*Yes*
