Description
Cave Hill Country Park sits above North Belfast with wide views over the city and Belfast Lough. The Middle Trail, around 700 metres of natural, hand-built downhill singletrack, is the park's first and only officially sanctioned MTB trail. Built by the Cavehill Mountain Bike Club (CMC) under a Memorandum of Understanding with Belfast City Council, and supported by Outdoor Recreation NI, it opened in October 2022. The trail has a natural, unmanicured character typical of UK community trails.

The Trails
- The Middle (approx. 700m, Black): A natural downhill line descending from the caves near the top of Cavehill. Hand-built with jumps, drops and berms. Two qualifying jumps near the top give a sense of what follows. Considerably more demanding than a trail centre black β natural conditions vary by weather. Maintained by Cavehill MTB Club under licence from Belfast City Council.
Local Organisation
- Cavehill Mountain Bike Club is an IMBA-affiliated club and a NI-registered charity that manages and maintains The Middle under an MOU with Belfast City Council. The club uses a QR code app system for trail maintenance and health and safety monitoring.
