Whitchurch Cycling Club has secured £20,000 from a Cardiff Council community sports grant scheme to support the build of a new all-weather mountain bike pump track and skills loop in North Cardiff. The grant, delivered in partnership with Cardiff Met Sport, contributes to the club’s wider fundraising target for the project and helps them move ahead with plans.

Whitchurch CC, based at Coryton Primary School, runs sessions for 111 youth riders aged 6–17. The new natural-feel track will strengthen club coaching, while also offering school and wider community access.
“This funding is a game-changer for our Club, giving us the chance to expand skills coaching and make cycling even more fun for our young riders and the community.” — Matthew Thomas, Whitchurch Cycling Club
Beicio Cymru, the national governing body for cycling in Wales, supported the club in their bid.
“Helping our cycling clubs secure funding is a key part of what we do, ensuring more investment reaches the grassroots of our sport.” — Ffion James, Development Manager, Beicio Cymru
The scheme also backed projects in rugby, football, basketball, and disability athletics — from pitch upgrades and floodlights to minibuses and storage facilities. With this grant in place, Whitchurch CC is a step closer to delivering a permanent, high-quality cycling facility that will inspire young riders for years to come.
