Construction has begun on a new community pump track in Twechar, East Dunbartonshire, with Velosolutions UK confirmed as the builder.

The facility is being built next to the Twechar Healthy Living and Enterprise Centre, close to the Forth and Clyde Canal. Velosolutions UK broke ground on the project following a community consultation and design vote run by East Dunbartonshire Council, in which residents selected their preferred layout from a shortlist of designs.
The track
The pump track will be an asphalt circuit of ramps, berms and rollers designed to be ridden by generating momentum through body movements rather than pedalling. It is being designed for all ages and abilities, and will be suitable for BMX bikes, mountain bikes, skateboards, scooters and rollerblades.
Background
East Dunbartonshire Council ran an initial community consultation in spring 2025, delivered by Green Action Trust, which returned overwhelmingly positive feedback in favour of a pump track for the village. A second phase followed in January 2026, inviting residents to vote on their preferred design from a shortlist submitted by builders on a fixed budget basis. Children at Twechar Primary School were also given a vote. The winning design was then taken forward into construction.
Twechar is already undergoing significant investment in outdoor recreation. The nearby Twechar Outdoor Pursuits Centre, a £5.6 million facility on a former derelict site beside the Forth and Clyde Canal, has recently completed construction and will offer canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding and cycling, alongside a bike workshop and storage facilities.
