Ruthin pump track at Cae Ddôl nears completion

A new 100-metre pump track at Cae Ddôl park in Ruthin, Denbighshire, is nearly finished, built to sit in the park's flood basin and cope with being flooded.

The track combines precast concrete curves from Parkitect, which form the finished riding surface, with lower built bumps of hardcore and asphalt in between. The site sits in a flood basin within a protected landscape, so the bumps are kept low enough to let flood water flow over them without reducing the basin's capacity.

Who is behind it

The signs for the track say it has been delivered by Denbighshire County Council and Ruthin Town Council, with funding from Beicio Cymru, Sport Wales, the UK Government's Local Regeneration Fund and the county council. According to the Denbighshire Free Press, Ruthin Town Council will maintain it long-term, as it does the skate park next door.

Riding it

Alongside the pump track, the wider works at Cae Ddôl include a new traffic-free active travel route through the park, around 500 metres long with loops and turning sections.

The bilingual Welsh and English signs prepared for the site say the track is for bikes, skateboards, inline skates and scooters, with no motorised or electric vehicles, and for riders aged eight and over. They strongly recommend a helmet and other protective kit, and ask riders to stay off the track when it is wet, icy or snowy. The nearest postcode is LL15 1HN, at the Cae Ddôl car park.

No opening date has been announced. Photos from the site show the precast sections in place, with groundworks still under way. For updates, follow Ruthin Town Council. iBikeRide will add a listing for the pump track once it opens.
