You can now once again enjoy Oliver's Oscar and Skydive sections of the trail. However, due to the new trail surfacing, riders are advised to exercise caution.
Thanks to funding from the Rural Asset Development Fund (these trail sections have been upgraded to be fully accessible for everyone, including disabled cyclists using adaptive cycles. This initiative makes the Lonesome Pine Trail the region's first all-accessible mountain bike trail.
While riders can currently sample the upgraded sections, the official launch is scheduled for the end of November.
The full descent from the trail down to Kielder Garage is expected to be fully operational before Christmas.
The Forestry England's Northumberland Recreation, Public Affairs Manager commented:
"This is a real milestone moment, not just for the Kielder area but wider Northumberland and the North East- to have created the 1st all accessible mountain bike trail in the region in the aftermath of all the storm Arwen damage is something we are proud to get open again for the public. Today is about getting riders out to sample the trail and give feedback before the formal launch. Seeing cyclists as young as 6 and some nearly 80 years old out on the ride today just shows how popular the renewed Lonesome Pine Trail is going to be"
