Barnsley Youth Activity Park is taking shape next to Base71 Youth Zone, bringing a new pump track and beginner friendly bike space to the town centre. Work on the site is well progressed and the skate bowls and pump track have already been installed.

The Youth Activity Park sits on Schwabisch Gmund Way beside the soon to open Base71 Youth Zone and opposite Barnsley Interchange. Planning was granted earlier in 2025 and the project is supported by the Government’s Levelling Up Fund and Sport England. The council describes the bike area as beginner friendly and part of a wider mix that also includes skate features, active travel routes, inclusive play spaces and a parkour area.
Although the park and Base71 are separate projects, their location side by side creates a growing activity hub for youth in the centre of Barnsley. Base71 will offer indoor sports and creative spaces while the outdoor park adds riding, skating and parkour. Free under 18 bus travel and the proximity to the interchange make both facilities easy to reach.
What we know
- The pump track and skate bowls have been installed following the latest construction update from November 2025.
- The site is next to Base71 Youth Zone on Schwabisch Gmund Way.
- The bike track is intended to be beginner friendly based on council statements.
- The project is funded through Levelling Up support and Sport England investment.
- Opening is expected in Spring 2026.
What we do not yet know
- Surface type for the pump track and bike area such as asphalt, concrete or modular.
- Track layout including length, number of rollers, berms or any dedicated loops.
- Permitted uses for bikes, BMX, scooters or adaptive equipment.
- Triton Construction is responsible for the construction phase. Design details and the specialist behind the pump track layout have not been confirmed in public documents.
- Whether the pump track/bike circuit includes intermediate or advanced progression zones beyond beginner level.
- Exact opening date and whether the site will open in stages.
- Lighting plans or defined hours of use.
For now the Youth Activity Park is one to watch. Once the council publishes detailed track information we will update with surface type, design specifics and any early riding guidance. The combination of the outdoor park and Base71 next door points to a developing youth and active travel hub for Barnsley.
