Lone Star is the name of a new shorter version of the Lonesome Pine trail (which is 19.7km). It is a 9.5km trail and will be even longer in spring when the top section of boardwalk and Purdom Plunge sections open. It is black-graded and suitable for Adaptive Mountain Bikes.

Lone Star name was given as it ties into the Kielder Skyspace and Kielder Observatory and celebrates the wonderful Dark Skies of Kielder/ Northumberland. It starts at the Kielder Skyspace car park and finishes at Kielder village.

Lonesome Pine Trail
- Work on the Lonesome Pine Phase 1 project has now been fully completed since the devastating impact of Storm Arwen in 2021 which saw approximately one million trees come down in the UK and hit Northumberland and Kielder particularly hard.
- The final section (Bewshaugh) will remain closed until January due to timber harvesting works where the contractors are still crossing the trail- please do not go onto this section- obey the signs!
- At the top of the trail, the boardwalk is closed and maintenance work is being undertaken in January- DO NOT ACCESS, the timber is very slippy and there are broken boards!
- They will be adding netting to give more grip on the timber as part of the January works.
Deadwater MTB Trails.
- Most of the Deadwater trails are open,however there is a closure over on 3 Dog Descent due to construction work underway on the Downhill Trail.
- Please DO NOT enter the Downhill Trail area, the site is very wet and they need the site to dry out.
- Once completed the LONGEST DOWNHILL MTB TRAIL ENGLAND will open all year round.
Kielder Mountain Bike Trail Centre has eight waymarked trails from greens through to blacks as well as a skills trials park and is situated in Kielder Water & Forest Park in Northumberland, North East England.
