Known as “Slam Dunc”, the trail was originally hand dug by former Highland Wildcat Trails volunteer George Duncan and had previously been used during junior Highland Hardline events in Golspie.
According to Highland Wildcat Trails, the route was formally added into the organisation’s lease agreement with Sutherland Estates after Duncan stepped down two years ago. Once included within the lease, the trail also needed to be covered by insurance and upgraded to meet modern trail standards before reopening.
Upgrade work was carried out by local trail builder Ronan Taylor alongside volunteer dig days totalling 83 hours of work. The association said the paid work was funded through income generated from the trail centre’s car parking machine.
The trail can be accessed via the blue climbs from the main car park to the stone circle, or via forest vehicle tracks behind Rhives Farm. Riders have been reminded to be considerate to walkers, estate vehicles and other trail users on the shared climbs and access tracks.
The updated trail now also appears on the latest trail map and on Trailforks.
You can find more information about the wider trail network on the Golspie Wildcat mountain bike trails listing.
