Cottingham Parish Council has appointed Clark and Kent to rebuild the village's dirt bike track at King George V Playing Fields, backed by £89,500 of funding.
The bike track behind King George V Playing Fields in Cottingham, East Riding of Yorkshire, is getting a full rebuild. Cottingham Parish Council has appointed specialist contractors Clark and Kent to design and build the new track, its October 2026 newsletter says. A start date for the works has not been announced yet.
What is planned
The council says the work will bring clear routes of varying difficulty, a realigned start hill, new signage and an agreed maintenance plan.
Funding
The works are funded by an £80,550 Commuted Sums Open Space Grant from East Riding of Yorkshire Council, with £8,950 from the Parish Council's own budget.
How it got here
The Friends of KGV group set up the track in the late 2000s, and the Parish Council took it on after the group disbanded. The council closed it after a RoSPA inspection found that changes made over the years had left routes crossing each other. Local parents have since formed a Bike Track Support Group, and the council says it has worked closely with them on the project and hopes the partnership will carry on once the track reopens.
What happens next
The Parish Council is planning a launch event once the works are complete. Until then the track remains closed. For updates, follow the Parish Council's bike track page, the Cottingham Bike Park Facebook group and @cottbikepark on Instagram.
