Construction has started on a new pump track at Overlee Park in Clarkston, East Renfrewshire, following more than two years of community fundraising and planning.

The 200-metre circuit is being built between the park's sports pitches, on a site of around 1,750 square metres. It will be free to use and designed for bikes, scooters, skateboards, wheelchairs and rollerblades, with a wheelchair accessible layout intended to make the facility usable by riders of all ages and abilities.

The project is valued at more than £360,000. Funding secured so far includes £100,000 from sportscotland, £88,000 from East Renfrewshire Council, and £68,800 from the Scottish Government's Place Based Investment Programme. Stamperland Residents Association contributed £5,000, and a community crowdfunding appeal, which closed in December 2025, raised a further £1,735 from 57 supporters toward a local fundraising target of £10,000. Planning permission for the track was granted on 11 June 2026.

The project is being delivered in partnership between Netherlee and Stamperland Community Council (NSCC) and East Renfrewshire Council. The track will include motion-activated smart lighting with a cut-off timer, designed to limit light pollution and restrict use later in the evening.

Cllr Danny Devlin, the council's environment and housing convener, welcomed the start of works, describing the track as a further addition to the free recreational facilities available across East Renfrewshire.

NSCC chair Siobhan McGuinness said the start of construction follows two and a half years of fundraising and collaboration, calling it "a landmark moment for our community."

No completion date or contractor has yet been confirmed.
