Colchester Council has temporarily halted plans to remove a makeshift BMX track in Iron Latch Woods, Chitts Hill, following significant community outcry. The council had initially deemed the track "unsafe" and unauthorised, planning to dismantle it by November 15, 2024. However, after widespread opposition and a petition started by Sam Ford, the council decided to reconsider its decision.

The BMX track has been used by hundreds of people, including children and adults, for years.
In response to the outcry, the council has reopened a survey to gather more input from the community, particularly from mountain biking enthusiasts.
The track has existed in some form for decades. We will update as we hear more.
