SheRides Gisburn Forest Hub

What to Expect:

This is a social ride for anyone above absolute beginner level, with Gisburn Forest offering an exceptional mix of flow trails and technical riding.

It is important to remember that we will riding a variety of trails all over the hill so absolute beginners will struggle with the more technical trails- all riders must be comfortable in tackling red trails as well as some more technical sections of trail.

We can ride black trails too, but this will be down to the group as a whole- we can decide on the day what we want to shred!

We’ll meet in the spot listed below, get acquainted and head out for the day.

We’ll enjoy a little warm up on the fantastic skills loops available at the forest, then, when warm and ready, we will head further afield and can take it from there.

This is a loop that can be about 30km depending on the route taken, so a decent level of fitness is required- although you don’t have to ride the whole thing if you don’t want to.

We will have a ‘lunch break’ in the middle of the day where we can grab some food, refuel and enjoy the facilities provided by Forestry England at Gisburn. There is an awesome cafe onsite that offers coffees, cakes and more or you can bring your own food.

It’s a super loose structure; we won’t be rushing to get done, we won’t be pushing to tick off features- the aim is to have fun and ride bikes!

No pressure, just good times

Where to Meet Us:

We will be ready and waiting just outside the Gisburn Forest Cafe building at 09:45, ready to ride at 10:00 (we’re not going to hang around too long, so try to be on time so you don’t miss the ride). If you fancy a coffee before the ride, do arrive early so you’re ready to go at 10am.

Emma will be there ready and waiting, so be sure to make yourself known to her.

What Should you Bring?:

It’s super important to note that we will not ride with anyone who is not wearing a helmet!

Other than that, the protective gear that you bring is up to you- we normally ride with knee pads and maybe gloves, depending on the conditions. You’ll also need a bike that is trail suitable and safe, and some water to keep you going.

As this ride is taking place in October we would strongly recommend a rain jacket and riding pants so you have a better chance of staying warm and dry!

If you’re going to hire a bike for the day be sure to do it well in advance of the ride, and ensure you have a way of getting to the bike to Gisburn Forest as there is no bike hire available at the Forest Hub.

What Will it Cost?

The ride itself is totally free, we won’t be charging you anything for our company.

Gisburn Forest charges for car parking, the prices are as follows:

Gisburn Hub main car park

-Up to 1 hour: £2.00

-All day: £6.00

Cocklet Hill and Stocks reservoir car parks

-Up to 1 hour: £1.50

-All day: £3.00

*Note that parking in Cocklet Hill requires a short cycle to the Forest Hub

Your parking fees will go towards maintaining the local forests, trails and walking paths.

It’s totally up to you how long you stay for but parking for the full day means we don’t have time restraints and the money goes to maintaining the trails- it’s a win, win.

Other than that, having some money spare for a bit of lunch and a coffee is great idea although you don’t have to buy anything if you don’t want to- feel free to bring your own pack lunch and snacks, as well as plenty of water.

And a quick disclaimer from us, please do take a look:

This is NOT a guided ride and there will be no coaching, we’re simply meeting you at the trail head to make some friends, push each other as a group, and get women on the trails. We do not accept any responsibility / liability for any accidents, and we will refuse to ride with anyone who arrives without the correct safety equipment or an unsafe bike. All riders must sign up in order to ride and in doing so you are agreeing to these terms. All riders must be ages 18 or above.
