About this event:

What: we'll be completing work on a new 20m section of trail where the first boardwalk used to be. Details below.

Who: all welcome, no previous trailbuilding experience needed.

U14's need to be accompanied at sessions by a parent/guardian.

14 - 17 yr olds need a parent/guardian to come to the meet up, sign the sign on sheet and collect at the end of the session. Parents/guardians very welcome to sign up and help dig too.

Sign up: we've got 16 spaces available for this session. Remember to get a ticket for each person in your party who'll be coming along.

What to bring: suitable clothes for trailwork outside in winter (including waterproofs and warm clothing), sturdy boots, own trail snacks/drinks

We provide: tools, gloves, hi vis, safety glasses, session supervision/guidance/training.

Meet up: 0900 at the Gateway building at Glentress, under the canopy next to the toilets/changing/showers.

Directions for parking/meet up: turn into Glentress off A72. Once past the barrier head straight on and after ~150m and bear right over the concrete bridge (now single lane for vehicles), following the blue badge holders parking signs, head briefly up the hill then right again just before the Gateway building into the car park.

Getting to the worksite: from the meet up we'll drive steadily up into the forest (on good quality forest roads) and park near the start of Magic Mushroom/exit of the Pie Run. Carsharing where possible.

Trail closure required? No, Magic Mushroom will stay open to ride but we'll have controls in place to manage riders passing through our work areas to keep everyone safe between ~0915 and ~1245

Tasks on the trails:

main job will be wheelbarrowing in crushed stone aggregate from a pile at the trail entry and tipping out on top of the already laid course stone layer - to form the final riding surface for the 20m section of new trail

hand shaping the aggregate ready for wackerplating

adding support (mineral soils/fresh aggregate) to LH turn on approach to stream crossing

Cake break: 1100 ish!

Finishing up: we'll finish up on the trail at ~1245, back down to the Gateway building for 1300.

Parking and the exit barrier: we'll give you a code at the meet up giving you free parking for the full day (the least we can do!). Just before leaving Glentress find the nearest paystation and input your vehicle registration and the code. The barrier will then lift automatically on exiting.

We're chuffed to be back on Magic Mushroom after having to cancel our February session, looking forward to getting the new line finished. Hopefully catch you on Saturday.

Cheers,
