Hosted by SheRides Ambassador Lauren đ«¶
What to Expect:Â
This is a social ride for anyone above absolute beginner level on a mix varied terrain like single track, gravel paths and technical descents; itâs an easy red graded ride so all riders must be confident on the bike.
High Cross to the Iron Keld is one of the most scenic routes in the lakes, and the route is a little over 20km with around 500m of ascending.
Weâll meet in the spot listed below, get acquainted and head out for the day.
We will have a âlunch breakâ in the middle of the day where we can grab some food, refuel and enjoy the comforts of the stunning Chesterâs by the River cafe in Skelwith Bridge- check out there Insta here: @chestersbytheriver. You are more than welcome to bring your own food if you would prefer. Â
This is a long ride and definitely not a race- we wonât be rushing to get done, we wonât be pushing to tick off features- the aim is to have fun and ride bikes!Â
No pressure, just good times! Â
Below is a screenshot of the route and a .gpx file for free download.
Where to Meet Us:Â
We will be ready and waiting in the High Cross Carpark between Coniston and Windermere at 09:45, ready to ride at 10:00 (weâre not going to hang around too long, so try to be on time so you donât miss the ride).Â
Lauren will be there ready and waiting, so be sure to make yourself known to her.Â

What Should you Bring?:Â
Itâs super important to note that we will not ride with anyone who is not wearing a helmet!
Other than that, the protective gear that you bring is up to you- we normally ride with knee pads and maybe gloves, depending on the conditions. Youâll also need a bike that is trail suitable and safe, and some water to keep you going.
Be sure to bring clothes that will keep you warm and dry. Â
If youâre going to hire a bike for the day be sure to do it well in advance of the ride.
What Will it Cost?Â
The ride itself is totally free, we wonât be charging you anything for our company.Â
The High Cross carpark is free to use for the day- everybody loves a freebie!
If you feel like you want to give money to trail maintenance then check with Lauren for a good place to donate- great trails require maintenance and we should all do our part.Â
Other than that, having some money spare for a bit of lunch and a coffee is great idea although you donât have to buy anything if you donât want to- feel free to bring your own pack lunch and snacks, as well as plenty of water.Â
Extra Info:
Here is quick disclaimer from us, please do take a look:Â

All riders must sign up in order to ride and in doing so you are agreeing to these terms. All riders must be ages 18 or above.Â
