For our December session we'll be on Falla Brae Red at Glentress, fixing up the trail to get this section back open after storm damage

About this event

What: we'll be on Falla Brae Red working mainly on the section under the powerlines to where the Black option merges, repairing the trail now the storm damaged trees have been cleared. The section has been closed since October 2023 (Storm Babet). Hopefully we'll be able to get the final repairs done and trail reopened at the session or just after. Details below.

Who: all welcome, no previous trailbuilding experience needed. U12's need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian. U'18's will need to bring their parent/guardian to the meet up to sign the sign on sheet.

Sign up: we've got 16 spaces available for this session. Remember to get a ticket for each person in your party who'll be coming along.

What to bring: suitable clothes for trailwork outside (including waterproofs), sturdy boots, own trail snacks/drinks

We provide: tools, gloves, hi vis, safety glasses, session supervision/guidance/training.

Meet up: 0900 at the Gateway building at Glentress, under the canopy next to the toilets/changing/showers.

Directions for parking/meet up: turn into Glentress off A72. Once past the barrier head straight on and after ~150m and bear right over the concrete bridge (now single lane for vehicles), following the blue badge holders parking signs, head briefly up the hill then right again just before the Gateway building into the car park.

Getting to the worksite: from the meet up we'll drive steadily up into the forest (on good quality forest roads) and park at the far end of the Falla Brae car park. Carsharing where possible.

Trail closure required? trail is currently closed at post 32 with a diversion via Good Game but we'll have controls in place to manage any riders passing through our work areas to keep everyone safe between ~0915 and ~1245.

Tasks on the trails:

  • rebuilding the 2nd half of the RH turn under the powerlines, damaged by an upturned rootplate

  • repairing trail damage from upturned rootplates - prepping, infilling and compacting holes in trail surfaces/edges

  • tidying upturned rootplates in trail fall areas - clearing off soils and trimming spiky root ends back

  • clearing off debris/mud built up on trail surfaces during long closure period

  • cleaning out drainage channels/deberming and draining puddles

  • clearing remaining spiky brash from fall areas and trimming stugs flush

Cake break: 1100 ish!

Finishing up: we'll finish up on the trail at ~1245, back down to the Gateway building for 1300.

Parking and the exit barrier: we'll give you a code at the meet up giving you free parking for the full day (the least we can do!). Just before leaving Glentress find the nearest paystation and input your vehicle registration and the code. The barrier will then lift automatically on exiting.
