Final Descent update: the volunteer dig crew made great progress on Final Descent at the 3 October session, but more hands are needed if it is to open this month. If it annoys you that it is closed, come and lend a hand to get it finished and opened. No experience necessary.
Join the QECP Trail Collective to maintain the mountain bike trails at Queen Elizabeth Country Park. No experience necessary, and you don't need to be a mountain bike rider to help. This session the group will be working on Final Descent, meeting at Gravel Hill Car Park (Queen Elizabeth Country Park, Gravel Hill, Horndean PO8 0QE).
The session runs 9am until 1pm, and volunteers do not need to stay for the full session. Please book a ticket on Eventbrite as this helps the group plan the session, and bring a cup for the tea break!
The QECP Trail Collective are a group of volunteers who want to ensure that the trails in the park are safe, fun to use, and suitable for various levels of experience. Dig days involve manual labour using a selection of tools, including spades, rakes, hoes and mattocks. While this will be of particular interest to those who use the trails, it is not just for mountain bikers. No riding is required on dig days, and all volunteers can leave with a sense of satisfaction from a good session's work and some great before and after shots.
What to bring: health and safety is very important, and all volunteers will be given a tool and task talk. You will need gloves, long trousers and appropriate sturdy footwear, such as walking or safety boots (steel toe caps if you have them); you may not be able to dig without suitable footwear. Bring layers and waterproofs, a hat and insect repellent: you will be in the woods, so be mindful of ticks and mosquitoes. Water and any snacks you need are highly recommended.
