Citizen Science Expedition: Kendal Mountain Festival 2026 takes place on Thursday 19 November 2026, meeting at Pelter Bridge Car Park, Ambleside LA22 9LW.
Join Trash Free Trails for their annual Kendal Mountain Festival expedition to Loughrigg Fell, removing, recording and reporting terrestrial pollution along the way. The day teaches the citizen science method behind Trash Free Trails' State of Our Trails report. Special to this year's event is an on-expedition workshop with Fix The Fells, who restore upland paths in the Lake District. Supported by the National Trust and the Kilian Jornet Foundation.
The day: "We'll meet at 8:30am before hosting a briefing at 9am", covering the trail clean method and kit. The group then sets off on foot, guided by a Mountain Leader, with stops for breaks and lunch. Back at the car park there is a total count celebration and a look at the data collected. The event page lists 09:30 to 17:00, while its description says 8:30 to 4pm, so check your booking confirmation for the final timings. Route: Komoot.
What to bring: outdoor clothing, waterproof layers, hiking shoes, water, snacks and a packed lunch. The organisers note: "Unfortunately this mountain route may not be suitable for all physical abilities."
Booking: free (£0.00), book on the Trash Free Trails event page.
