It's Surrey Hills! ... does it still make the grade?
A great place to ride if you live in the South East but is it still a 'venue', given the amount supported trail centres and trail development across the rest of the UK? Probably not for me but it's still a good place to get some laps in.
What do you like?
All pretty natural feeling with the odd berm. Lots of people riding and the atmosphere is pretty relaxed.
What could be improved?
Trails get sabotaged, there are no official trails meaning that although the trail crews are trying their best, the trails are often ruined or in really poor state.
Fantastic area, great local support with Peaslake Village Stores, Riders Hub and Hurtwood Inn. Surrey Hills is a huge area although most of the riding tends to focus around Peaslake
There is loads to ride here, If you have a look at a map before going it gives you an idea of what to look for, then head out, get yourself lost and see what you can find!
it is a great maze of trails across the different hills, its great fun to take some time and see what you can find out there.
What could be improved?
No negatives, just keep an eye on where you are riding and watch out for other users of the area such as walkers and horse riders.
Loads of trails for all levels. Can link up different trails for different varied rides.
New/updated trails appearing regularly. Easy to find trails with a bit of exploring
What could be improved?
Can get very Busy. Trails ruined by landowners occasionally.
If you are new to the sport or to the area invest in some coaching and guiding.
What do you like?
Abundance of riding for all levels. The Surrey Hills has single track riding available for all levels of rider. Easily accessible but no way markers apart from on Summer Lighting on Leith Hill.
What could be improved?
You can get easily lost and ride into trails that may be tricky and too technical for some riders. Be careful or use a MTB trail guide to learn a bit about the area when you first visit.
