Progressive and challenging, undeniably fun

These days it seems to be a bit quieter - so if you want to build your skills up and are not completely confident yet please have a go. At the end of the day, these trails have been designed from basics level up to attract as many people as possible...

What do you like?

- As other reviews state, you can work your way up from the blue to the reds - everything roll-able - super smooth - so much fun that it makes you want to come back for more every week

What could be improved?

- In the wet it is virtually ice - slightly addictive

Would you recommend?

*Yes*

great trails but.........

Overall great riding, pushup is hard work but not too bad, mostly great people just a shame about the few that think the place belongs to them and lesser riders should stick to queen elizabeth.

What do you like?

Fun trails are a credit to the builders and could be really very good despite the ice-like chalk in the wet

What could be improved?

Can be bit scary for lesser experienced riders but its all roll-able..... but there in lies a problem. I have ridden since i could walk but only recently getting into this kind of trails, i was beggining to enjoy this place as i added it into my usual circuit but i wont be riding there again as i will explain. The guys who build and ride there are generally great guys as long as you are skilled on a dh bike. If you are not on a 4k downhill rig and clear every jump first time everytime then the sniggering can be heared through the trees. I know a lot of people are put off riding there for this reason. If you are reading this guys a word of advice..... perhaps the offer of help and advice to newbies instead of 'bloody hell he's crap' may result in a few more offers of help come dig day. Just a thought. The only time i ride there now is when i know it will be quiet and i can practice at my own pace without being made to feel like im not good enough for the place. The only other bit of advice is that as its mostly chalk surface it can be very very slippery in the wet.

Stoughton. A confidence inspiring progressive DH track.

Stoughton Downhill is just passed the village of Stoughton at the end of the South Downs. The postcode in the listing takes you close to the car park but the car park is prob 100 to 200 metres before the end point on the sat nav. You can recognise the small free car park as it is called Stoughton Down. From the car park there is no signage (it needs some) but a small singletrack path starting parallel to the Fireroad gently traverses up the hill. You can ride all the way to the top or when you cross the downhill track you can start the push up. The Black and the new Red is incredibly well thought out and allows all riders to get out of it what you put in according to your ability level. It is an example of having progression genetically constructed into the core if its DNA. It starts of with a few corners, berms and little jumps to gather speed. Turns you into two drops and then a massive berm to a bus sized tabletop followed by rock steps, more berms a massive drop and the finale set of jumps. Only takes a minute or two but everything is rollable (even the big drops.. I rolled the last one but next time maybe). Each time you ride it confidence is inspired to take the next ride that much faster, to hit it harder time after time. The push up I didn't time but reckon 10 mins. It's not that bad, a decent workout and creates a social opportunity to chat and reflect on your last run and visualise your next run. The blue is a slower descent and has an off camber element to the ride which is testing in itself. As a warm up blast it is fun. I'm more of a technical XC rider than a Downhiller (these days) but this trail is the one that will encourage folk to move between the disciplines. No facilities at the car park but the village up the road looked like there were a few quaint pubs. Personal thank you to the club and trail building team and massive respect.

What do you like?

- Progressive skills development - Everything is rollable - Inspires you to push your game slightly more each run - Brilliantly designed and maintained - Free Car Park - Strong community

What could be improved?

- no facilities bar the car park if that is important to you

Would you recommend?

*Yes*

Great trails

A really good place to go ride if you want to sharpen up your downhill skills or just spread a wide grin across your face! Rideable on a hardtail or blastable on a big bike too, great fun :-)

What do you like?

Several different runs you can do, lots of local routes too so you can add it into a bigger ride if you like.

What could be improved?

You have to ride back to the top to do it again ;-)

take your riding to the next level!

Take your riding to the next level, all the features on both trails are rollable even on an XC bike which give you confidence to build up slowly to getting airtime. Very friendly locals made up of a wide cross section of riders.

What do you like?

Confidence-inspiring, well made features help you to progress.

What could be improved?

Lack of facilities, but that adds to the 'backcountry trails' atmosphere!

Would you recommend?

*Yes*
