Description

Sherwood Pines Mountain Bike Trails are in Sherwood Pines Forest Park in Nottinghamshire. They have red, blue, and green graded MTB trails, a Downhill and Dirt Jump area and as a skills area.

Like this?

Sherwood Pines also has miles of natural singletrack on offer.

Maid Marion Family Cycle Route (Green)

  • The Family Cycle route covers a 6.4km loop that starts at the Visitors Centre and loops through the forest on the extensive all-weather network. There are also "opt-in" sections of the intermediate blue trail where you can test your skills along the way.

Pedal and Play

  • A beginner-friendly Pedal and Play area at Sherwood Pines by Forestry England and Bike Track, designed to help young riders and families gain confidence before progressing to the main MTB trails. The site features three interconnected loops with learner lines, rollers and berms, supported by Defra funding and following successful builds at Cannock Chase, Hicks Lodge and High Lodge.

Robin Hood Adventure Cycle Trail (Blue)

  • The Adventure Cycle Trail is 11.2km. It is moderately graded at Blue. It is suitable for intermediate riders and is constructed from an all-weather limestone surface, which is rideable year-round.

The Outlaw Trail (Red)

  • The 13km Outlaw Trail is graded Red. It is quite flat, has berms and rollers, and flows with a mix of rocks and roots.

Skills Loop - Blue

  • Found near the visitor centre, this is a short loop of single track with a variety of technical trail features. Suitable for all ages and skill levels. Also used as a warm-up before heading out on the trails.

Bike Park (Orange)

    • The Downhill and Dirt Jump areas are two distinct zones.
    • The downhill zone starts from the wooden start tower, with four interlink runs each finishing at the Robin Hood Trail Climb from post 8. There is a series of rock drops and jumps in each run..
    • The Dirt Jump zone has a series of graded Freeride dirt jumps and a warm-up linear pump track. There are progressive lines of tabletops for the beginner to the advanced.

Off-Piste

  • Like most official riding spots, there is an unsanctioned, non-way-marked, off-piste trail scene. Some of the popular unofficial tracks are off the red/ blue tracks. Examples are Dragons Back, The Fish Bowl, Singletrack Heaven and Rollercoaster. Look out for the bomb holes or head down route 6, where there are plenty of long singletrack sections which veer off.

Bang average

A very bland set of official trails, a couple of half decent sections. The off piste use to be the hidden gems of pines,  but they are few and far between compared to what used to be available.

What do you like?

Sausage rolls

What could be improved?

To many over engineered, samey turns.

Would you recommend?

no

East CX

Well kept trails in a Forestry England typical location. Facilities good, hardened riders will likely want a bit more as its quite flat and more XC type.

What do you like?

Facilities, well kept.  Several trails for beginners, families and less skilled MTBers.

What could be improved?

Bit samey and nothing really technical.

Would you recommend?

yes

Snooze

No variety on the flat trails. How they have graded one of the trails as a red is bonkers. There are no red difficulty features anywhere here.

What do you like?

Ummmm I guess it's nice to be out in the woods, even if you are surrounded by people walking in the mountain bike trails.

What could be improved?

Flat and boring

A bit flat

Nice single track through the trees but a bit boring as you keep waiting for something interesting to challenge you that doesn’t materialise.

What do you like?

Nice single track

What could be improved?

Boring

Meh

Probably the most bland bike park. Live less than five minutes away and would much rather drive further away.

What do you like?

Dirt jumps.

What could be improved?

Trails not designed to full potential, very flat or up hill hardly any rewarding down hills. The downhill section is pretty much a pumptrack.

Would you recommend?

no

Yawn of the Year

It's just an average set of trails for beginners.

What do you like?

Great for newbies, nice scenery

What could be improved?

Just as a trail gets going, it stops. So much more could be done with what they have.

Would you recommend?

no
