Sherwood pines is an enjoyable day on the bike, but only if you're willing to put the work in as you can't rely on gravity to do the work as the Kitchener red trail is relatively flat with only 350meters of elevation over a 24k distance.
The trail is all single track through the forest and thick undergrowth which keeps you on your toes as any loss of concentration can easily result in going into a tree or bush. It does feel like hard work at the start but the trail gets more flowy as you make your way around the red graded route and you'll definitely finish with a smile on your face.
Along the route you'll find the downhill park & jump park, The jump park has lots of progressive well made jumps which looks well used and maintained, The downhill park has a number of short downhill runs that include rock gardens and drop offs which all start from a steep starting gate with an easy push up to get back to the start and gives you a bit of a rest from all the peddling you've done to get there.
The facilities are as you'd expect at a trail centre, with cafe, bike shop and bike hire plus large carpark ( £6 all day )
Also loads for the family to do as well, with blue and green bike trails,
Over all I had a good day on the bike and will visit again when in the area.

Good Points
It's not the longest or most difficult riding you'll do if you're a seasoned mtber. But it has potential to put a huge grin on your face. With no significant hills it's very pedally, that's not a bad thing. You'll get out what you put in.
Spin those cranks up to warp factor 9 and you'll enjoy the flowey kitchener trail as it twist it's way through the forest. Drains really well so it's possible to ride it all year round. A below par downhill line and a progressive jump area are just off the main trail. Miles of alternative tracks off the kitchener trail mean you could spend hours connecting your route together. A great place for newcomers to improve trail riding skills. Excellent facilities cafe/bike hire.
Bad Points
Only 13km main trail. Expensive parking on bank holidays.

Was recommended this route by other mtb'ers who have been visiting sherwood pines for years. Good recommendation.

Good Points
Recently stayed at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest and decided to give Sherwood Pines a go for the first time wiht my brother. Have a 'Scott Genius 750' and although I've taken it off road, I hadn't yet had the chance to take it on a good mtb run due to priorities. I will say it was a good, just shy of a couple hours of fun. Ran the Kitchener and I would say as a beginner, I did just fine. Gave it what I could but feel next time I'll take it even faster.
Bad Points
Nothing really bad to say, but maybe that's due to it being my first time running the route.

Good Points
Its a really easy trail young children would be able to ride all the trail safely its really good condition trails fast and has good flow love all the signs like western front ect.
Bad Points
£6 pounds for all day parking £4 for 2 hours is extremely steep especially if you have travelled a good distance to come. The café expect you to leave your bike out of eye view as most mountain bikes are 3 or 4 grand doubt many would do that.

I have ridden trails throughout Europe and North Africa and have been riding in these forests and on these trails for over 40 years and still enjoy it and most importantly I can still find new routes in and around the park. We have a vast array of off road tracks. For those who comment that The Kitchener Trail is not a 'true red' well just ride it faster, enjoy the trees and don't forget it is almost all singletrack. Come and enjoy it for what it is, pay your car parking and help to keep and improve the facilities.

Good Points
<div>Variety - anyone can ride here and enjoy it. If it becomes to easy then just go quicker. No matter how busy the car park is the trails are never crowded</div>
Bad Points
<div>Not a bad point, but it lacks real technical trails- not a criticism just a general comment, but it does make best use of the terrain available.</div>

Well enjoyed this (hard tail xc). Was quite puddley after previous days rain but this added to the fun! have read complaints about having to pedal a lot and not much downhill but to be honest you need to enjoy it for what it is. I actually enjoy pedalling my bike! You can develop your basic xc speed here without too many frights, although the odd tree comes quick after a fast bend. I did the (blue) Verderers in the Forest of Dean which to be honest is far steeper and I guess more "exhilarating" but each ride I find has a quality of its own, this one allows you to burst through the forest!

My nearest trail centre - I go about once a month for anything from a quick blast to a longer days riding out of the centre and back onto the trails. The Kitchener is at its best when ridden flat out, aim for a sub 50min lap. Take it easy and it can get dull.
The bike park while a bit tame compared to the Welsh centres is good fun. Again go flat out and try each of the lines to get the best out of it. The jump park is good and the short trail in is fun.
There are miles of trails off piste worth exploring and you can link into the local BW for a good 30km loop.
The facilities are great and there is loads for the minis to do while I play. The blue run is decent, nothing scary but still ok for a blast at speed.

User Review

Good Points
Almost 100% singletrack loop
Never seems to be that busy on the red trail
Bike park is wicked fun
Good facilities for the minis
Bad Points
Trails get very muddy in the wet.
When trees come down they take ages to clear them if at all.
Walkers on the red at weekends...when there are miles of paths available.
