Review for Guisborough Forest Mountain Biking

We visited on a sunny day which gave brilliant views out to the north sea from the top of the red route. We completed this trail. The outward half was mainly forest road with a few ups and downs, ending with a steep climb to the top. Then some singletrack followed, after which a very greasy climb had me off down a steep banking. Then there was some hellish root climbing which probably gave this trail its black grade previously. This part of the route would be great done the opposite way as a technical descent. there was bridleway followed by a technical descent towards home which tested all riders. I completed this trail feeling rather underwhelmed. The climbs were not as brutal as at Hamsterley, there was not the variety of Gisburn, the descents did not flow like anywhere north of the border, there was not the amount of singletrack as Whinlatter. The course was not long enough, there were too many dog walkers. That being said, there were plenty of families out enjoying their biking, but the red trail certainly wouldn't be one for beginners to try. This centre I think should be used as a base for exploring the many local bridleways rather than just the two trails marked here. we saw many tracks heading off into the woods that would satisfy curious minds and miles of tracks onto the moors are on offer. If someone could produce a decent map of this area with biking in mind it would maximise the potential of this place. Reviewers should check out the Guisborough Forest and North York Moors page before totally dismissing this one.
