Description

The Croft Mountain Bike Trail is in Croft Country Park just a mile from Swindon centre. It has Blue and Red Graded MTB options. It's a very short trail. It's best to ride it a few times if you’re a more experienced rider but also great for families and novices too. It's free, open all year and managed and maintained by the MB Swindon club.

The Croft Trail

  • The Croft Trail is 5km long with Red and Blue graded options. It's short but quite good fun, tight & twisty, flowing corners and berms and is well compacted. Waymarked it rides in one direction only. The Red has rock gardens, obstacles, kickers, small drops and some great Northshore sections.
  • Despite being flat and only 5km long there is surprisingly quite a bit neatly crammed into such a small area and you can do a few laps quite easily and so see your skill progression and speed develop each time.

Events

Trail for the family too

This is a great trail for all the family , a nice blue loop for younger riders to undertake with their parents . Safe and traffic free riding but with plenty of twists and turns to keep them amused . The red trails have plenty to offer too, in a very compact space . It comes thick and fast , with a variety of drops, lots of berms and some woodwork too, and for the unfit can be quite a workout! The trail is maintained by a keen core of volunteers and is rideable all year round. Very enjoyable , but with very few facilities dont forget to take a picnic and a flask !

Excellent trail with much for all

Extremely happy to have this trail locally - so glad I found it! The MB Swindon guys do a fantastic job maintaining it and making it fit for all weather and the design and features they have managed to cram in to what is actually a small space, are a real credit to them. There are no toilets or food on site, but it is just one trail, rather than a bike park. There are nearby pubs though, so all is not lost after a good ride.

What do you like?

Excellent quality trail in handy location. Brilliant fun with repeated yelps of delight in places - even after repeated riding. Lots of variety in obstacles and features. Free parking right next to the trail. All year round surface.

What could be improved?

There are no onsite facilities beyond parking - so no toilets, food or spares available on site. It might be a bit short for some riders, although there is so much packed in that doing many laps doesn't feel repetitive and you can mix up different obstacles on different laps.

A MTB Trail, in Swindon!?

Living only around 30 mins drive away, I don't ride here often enough. Its a feature packed location with lots of obstacles to challenge the beginner to intermediate rider and a great spot to brush up on some core skills. Want to ride a rock spine? Ever ridden North Shore woodwork? Need to work on your basic jumping or dropping techniques? The Croft Trail has it all. Its short enough to have a lunchtime blast around, but technical enough to make repetition of the loop well worth another lap or two. MB Swindon ride here regularly (as well as use it for running courses and BBQs) and the local bike store makes the most of it for demo days. A MTB Trail in Swindon? Yes and a flipping good one too!

What do you like?

Good variation of trail features considering what they have to work with. Great single track experience in an "urban" location. Drops, bridges, rock spines, small jumps and woodwork sections. Lots of locals willing to guide you if you are new to the area. Free Parking.

What could be improved?

Hard to complain as there is limited space here, little elevation to work with and the constraints of a volunteer lead organisation. No toilet or shop nearby.

A great trail. Lots of features packed in a small area, you have to stay switched on. On your own or with a group of mates, its 20mins-ish of good riding. You won't just do the one lap...impossible to resist beating your time, or completing something you missed. If you do ride this trail with company, you don't have to really worry about waiting for them. You won't lose them and if they don't fancy a third lap, they can wait and eat sandwiches whilst you rag around it again! If you do fancy moving on, the Ridgeway is an option, via the motorway bridge near by.

What do you like?

Great fun. skills improving features, all built by volunteers. All abilities in a group can ride it, without the better riders having to wait hours for stragglers. Good sized Free Carpark right infront of the trail. Picnic benches for beteween lap stuffing your face. Friendly local riders! The Check Inn is a post ride bike friendly pub at nearby Wroughton.

What could be improved?

Hard to say anything bad considering its location. But, its worth pointing out there are no toilets. Nowhere to purchase food or drink whilst at the trail, so bring your own. Dogs do sometimes roam onto the trail. Most dog walkers do realise its a bike trail as well, but its a Public area so it is what it is.
