Information about the Trails including access and car parking

These trails were built by Trailcraft out of an old spoil heap which was planted with trees in the 60s. Untouched for many years, the trails are enjoyed now by lots of people. There is a footpath at the trails too, so pedestrians and riders need to be aware of this. There are signs up to show the routes for riders and walkers. Please stay on the correct paths when travelling to the trails, as the farmland around the trails is private. There is a cafe and small shop (at the petrol station) at the roundabout (Four Lane Ends), (right by J3 of the M58 - about 100m from the entrance to the trails: beware: it's a very busy, fast, roundabout. Thank you and enjoy!

I am adding this review with some information for users which I hope is helpful (I am not a biker so just added the average ratings above which a friend MTBer gave me). From the west, there is access to the Trails by parking at Bickerstaffe Parish Field, Hall Lane, Bickerstaffe, L39 0EH. There is a free car park there. Facing the church, go left onto Church Road with the church on your right, and just past the church on the same side, look for a footpath sign - less than 50m past the church. The path is signed - it's just a short ride then on a path leading to the trails - there is a map on the Bickerstaffe Cycle Track Facebook page. Please be aware there may be horse-riders and horses about. From the east, you can park on the lay-by by Quattros' restaurant on Rainford Road (the A570) right by J3 of the the M58 which brings you in from the other end. Then cross the road and the entrance to the trails is just ahead of you. Please be aware this is a very busy fast road. I hope you enjoy the trails.

What could be improved?

One person commented there was a lot of litter. The management group and locals, and friends of the trails, are always picking litter up. the only thing we can do is spread the word about how this can not only be a problem to riders, but spoils the feel of the woods as well. Please help us to keep the trials free of litter in whatever way you can. Thank you.

What do you like?

Great little set of trails I can loose a few hours on. Love morning rides there when noone else is around. Varied features that keep it interesting. Better built than some major trail centres i've been to.

What could be improved?

Surface gets really greesy when moist so can be a little bit sketchy in places. Parking isn't an issue if you know where to park but it isn't very clear. One corner on the black is really akward and spoils the flow in my opinion.

Awesome trail in the middle of the flattest area of West Lancs

Get down and give it a blast!!! :D

What do you like?

Perfect for a blast after work go down all the time to develop skills and to test new equipment on my bike. Saves me spending money on fuel to get to the likes of Gisburn and Llandegla!! Nice small trail thats great fun whenever you go!!!

What could be improved?

Access can be a little tricky if you don't know where you are going. Litter can often get thrown everywhere as well.

Hidden Gem

I will definitely be going back often.

What do you like?

Decent berms and speed on the Black and I managed to lose the track half way round, the Orange took me by surprise as after about 4 seconds I was airborne which made me laugh quite a bit and you can get some decent little jumps in quite easily. The red run has some good fast bits, some tight turns. Can be sketchy when wet which all adds to the fun. I met 3 other lads up there and they seemed friendly enough which is always nice when you're out alone.

What could be improved?

Not sure if it is a bad point but I struggled to get any traction on some parts - maybe I had too much pressure in my back tyre - will have to go back and see. Not much variation in surface and there is nothing too technical as its mainly compacted ground. There is one slope [not long enough to call a climb] which is steep for an old fella like me and I missed the blaze as I was staring at my front wheel - I had to walk back down to see where I should be going.

First impressions

A good alternative if you just want a few hours mountain biking and dont want to have to travel for hours

What do you like?

Well thought out trails. For an area not known for being particularly hilly there are some fast trails there. Impressed with the black runs especially. Nice and technical. Good trails overall. It is small compared to big trail centres but this is not atrail centre. It is a local woods with good quality trails and dirt jumps!

What could be improved?

Non really. Dont expect any shops or anything there. I will be a regular visitor there.
