Went for surface to air which was excellent, It was fairly new when i went and was running a tad slow but still brilliant, the place could really do with some uplift or a cafe. Uplift would allow much more development and the trail variety would expand a great deal. Well worth going, surface to air is really starting to forge a good freeride scene in the UK
Needs a cafe - hot food and cold drinks.
Also a toilet for male / females ...
What do you like?
Runs - All are awesome.
Environment - Everyone you come across are all friendly and will to help.
Lifts - None, which is a good things as the legs gets a good work-out pushing / cyclying back up the hill ;)
Great place to ride if you go in the dry, surface to airs ridable in the wet, others are just too sketchy and slow if there was an uplift id rate it much higher, lucky i live fairly local!
What do you like?
The range of trails is broad, especially with the new plans for DH3, Black run and root canal and obviously surface to air have had a lot of attention which are really well made and fun trails, easy to find and plenty of parking, however can get full, really friendly atmosphere too.
What could be improved?
Like first review says clay/chalk makes it almost unridable in the wet, and surface to air gets pretty churned up, no features that really make you push yourself when there is a real opportunity for big features down surface to air, walk up is long limiting amount of runs you can physically do and have time to do in a day, facilities are lacking a bit due to not even having toilets or food
Aston Hill is ace in the spring, summer and so so in the Autumn and more of a no no in the winter. Has a great active community who give a warm welcome and trail development is always ongoing. Definetly worth checking out
What do you like?
- Great selection of downhill trails for beginner through to the advanced rider
- Fun xc route
What could be improved?
- Slate, clay terrain making it testing to the advanced rider and unrideable for many in the winter
